Separate them for a while.. Or add another male (be careful as he might get smashed) to introduce a bit of competition for the other male..

Yeah finding enough people with enough time to organise stuff, and also finding enough members to actually attend is a problem.. Last time we tried it we held the meeting here in Bulls (equal distance from palmy and wanganui) and there were a few people from Wanganui and Palmy, but once the meetings transferred to Palmy numbers died off.. Most of us local fish keepers know each other and see each other regularly anyway, but it would be good to meet new people..

Have you been buying and adding guppies from all sorts of random sources? There is a theory that there is a guppy virus that certain guppies carry and are resistant to it, someone told me that alot of imported guppies carry it.. If you introduce a carrier to your tank it can wipe out your other guppies and stress can wipe out the rest. It is recommended that you always add some of your "healthy" guppies from your existing tank into the tank with your new fish when you quarantine them and see if your "healthy" ones start fading away and getting deformed while all the others that haven't been in contact with the new ones are fine. I got the above information from a guppy breeder who knows his stuff and from what I have heard in other places it is true and alot of the suppliers the wholesalers are dealing with (cheapest bidders) are riddled with this virus. Some of the info might not be 100% correct as I don't really know much about it but I believe I have the general idea..

Don't buy guppies from the stores then Remembered an old thread someone posted about what strains are here and you can see it is pretty good viewtopic.php?f=12&t=35597

Awesome news guys! Were these the ones from Maine? They bred quite small and had lots of babies! I am sure you will have no problems raising them From what I have heard the hardest thing is the 9months before they are sellable at 2cm, but well wroth the wait.

Sorry to say but if he has dropsy put him out of his misery, I have tried multiple times with no success using a broad range of drugs to cure dropsy, sometimes you can get the fish to sort of recover but they never last long or go back to normal You need to try and figure out what caused it so that it doesn't happen to any others, remember that the dropsy like appearance can be caused by a broad range of things and can even just be a random thing which you had no control over.
-
lol yeah I am a fan of the babies more so than the adults, but as smidey said previously they are both nice fish and if you have adults hopefully you can breed some babies so can always look at them I was almost excited for you there smidey thinking you had bred them Good to hear your colony is maturing from memory they are typical tangs and do muck around a bit before getting it right but well worth it when they do, how many do you have in the colony?

Rock salt from the supermarket works well and is alot cheaper than the aquarium stuff

If the filter is doing its job (ie converting the amount of ammonia your fish are producing into nitrates and removing any crud floating around the tank) then you don't NEED a new another one. Another one is always good as it is a back up in case of a filter failure or to remove more crud floating around, but it wont mean you can get away with any less water changes or anything like that because you fish will still be producing the same amount of waste and each filter will just be processing half of it each. All depends on what you want to do and how much money you have, if it is working I wouldn't waste my money on a different one but that's just how I think
-
Why would you remove the fish and treat them? If you suspect your tank has been infected then treat them in the tank (lower water level to minimise drug usage if that is a problem) then you treat them and the tank.. Of course some drugs will kill of the filters but that can be managed if your tank is 300L and only has 4 discus in it and you are doing large water changes every second day I would say you will be fine.

I haven't encountered this much in my africans, maybe as Phoenix said some sort of swim bladder problem? Could be related to diet or could just be random, I haven't ever had a fish that does those twirly things come right.. If I was going to do anything I would stick him in something shallow (might help to sort the swim bladder out less pressure on it) and maybe some epsoms salt and peas if he is eating, in case something has blocked him up and it is causing problems.. Good luck it is a difficult one maybe you will have more help with google?

Will need more info before a proper suggestion can be made, what is in your tank? How big is the tank? What is your maintenance schedule and have you done any water tests? From memory the discusguru (user on here) recommends treating with metro/prazi when they stop eating, and white stringy poos suggested a parasite problem (unless you have been feeding lots of white worms as they make poos white..) Also introduce yourself in the welcome section and add your location to your profile you maybe near someone who is willing/able to come over and help or help out sourcing drugs etc.

lol that's brilliant, I think it would result in fish smashing them selves all over the tanks for me though they don't like changing light.. I have heard of people lowering the water level right down and then using a watering can to simulate rain as a trigger
-
Have you tried conditioning them separately or even by a divider? Sometimes this can happen.. Other things to trigger spawnings are increase/decrease in temp, big water changes you have to figure out what triggers that species and your individual fish.. Failing all of that stop trying to breed them neglect them a little and you are bound to look in there and find them breeding And you will be like one member who I have heard about who bred thousands of them and couldn't give them away lol

lol If the shops start doing id's and pass on customers concerns to the wholesalers maybe they will start dealing with descent suppliers and not the cheapest bidder.. But then they may still get sent the same rubbish because we are small fish in the grand scheme of things, or if we are sent descent fish the price will be higher than other suppliers and noone will buy them.. lol really stuck in a rut there.. I do feel shops have a responsibility to roughly know what stuff is and do ids to at least know if what they are selling is unsuitable for someones tank, and to sell healthy fish with no deformities At the end of the day they can only deal in what they are supplied, I think sometimes we are a little hard on them..
-
I stick it in stockings in the tanks, where I can I stick it around the filter inlet/outlet but it hasn't seemed matter, even an airstone placed near it should do the job.. Sometimes the sand goes through the stocking too so double it up or something...
-
lol yeah the males can be hard on them, but the tides turn once the females have eggs/fry
-
It is awesome that's for sure stuart grant was a legend, it still doesn't say what is in the tank though?
-
Looking good Has she been scrapping with something her fins look pretty ragged?
-
Awesome glad to know they have more.. I was talking to Robin and he seemed to think that brooklands had sold out I am still trying to get a few more as I only have 3 one developed dropsy
-
It can be very hard to diagnose exactly what the problem is.. I have seen alot of skinny small clown loaches in shops that I wouldn't touch, I suspected worms but you never know, has there been any explanation of what causes this "wasting disease"?
-
lol that does look cool, my ob zebra males have very faint startings of egg spots on back edge of pelvic fins but nothing like those guys
-
lol are their more left? Will post some pics of mine soon, yellow cheeked dwarf/apisto is a common name for borellii so here's hoping they are, yours look alot better than mine that's for sure.. 2 of mine have blue flecks in the face which is apparently an indication they maybe males so hoping I have both males and females in there or all males and simon all female so we can swap
-
Congrats the apisto's are addictive though Its just hard work finding descent ones but I am sure with the list basically allowing all species we will get there..
