  1. Tank is too small for demasoni unfortunately It would be pushing it for yellows as well, but they may be an option if you were planning on upgrading to a bigger tank in the future.. Other african options which may work in a tank that size are julidochromis or neolamprologus (brichardi/daffidol/leleupi) or even lamprologus ocellatus.
  2. I liked it better when it was in my lounge and used for breeding MTS with no fish..
  3. Looking good mate, looks like the fish have settled in well and good pics too, did you take them with your phone.. I am looking forward to seeing how this tank matures as the fish all grow and continue to colour up
  4. Ottos would get eaten by most africans because they are small fish.. Bristlenoses are a good alternative, however I don't think they will get between the substrate and glass and clean up that algae. It is just algae and takes a few mins to just wipe your finger between the glass and substrate once a week or 2 to get off.
  5. I agree, I would say 20-30 would be a good price for an 8cm clown loach, they sometimes retail at like 3cm for $24-30 so your paying the same for a much bigger fish. And I also agree they are far better in groups, when I got upto 10 they started schooling at the front of the tank and eating off the surface and you saw allot more of them.
  6. It would be a pain but you could take your other 2 filters apart and use the bits to determine what bit us faulty on yours..
  7. It is just what happens with cichlids sometimes it just goes to crap In this case it was probably the move into the smaller tank, the fish were probably at a similar level of dominance in the 6ft tank but after the move when they cased each other out and one of them was found lacking. As for what to do, add more big fish for targets or remove the bullied (or aggressive) one if the fish is getting bullied to the point where it may get killed or is living a crap life.
  8. lol There is always one I had exactly a dozen I moved them the other day, they are currently living with my tropheus.

Levamisole won't help it is for internal parasites although some things I have read suggest that it boosts the fishes immune system.. Best thing for white spot is blue circle white spot cure.. But salt and temp should deal with it how much salt are you using.. The blue circle looks like this http://www.google.co.nz/search?tbm=isch&source=mog&hl=en&gl=nz&client=safari&tab=wi&q=blue%20circle%20white%20spot%20cure&sa=N&biw=320&bih=393#i=0

Best way to do it is to treat the whole tank.. Just drop water level as much as you can, odds are if one fish is affected then the rest will be. It may just be the slower fish not getting enough food though.

It is avaliable over the counter from vets/pet stores for worming birds.. I think you can even order it online if u google it.. If u can get it I can probably send u enough to do your tank 1ml does 115l so u would need like 6mls for the 2 dosages needed hardly worth u buying a 50ml bottle...

I would probably start with something a bit milder and easier to get and cheaper like levamisole.. If your fish are eating then it isn't urgent yet, if you chuck some levamisole in they should start improving with a few days so that will give you something easy to start with.
  14. Most people recommend a 6ft min for frontosa however you have the extra width that they can play in, you should be fine for a few more years with them in that sized tank, you would also be wise to thin out the males as they mature (various methods of selecting the males to keep around if you google/search the forums).
  15. Not in NZ in its pure form to my knowledge, you may get some demasoni or random blue zebra hybrids that sort of resemble them occasionally but they are not the real deal. We have a strain of afra here that is quite nice but differs from ndonga and we don't know what varient they are.
  16. It would be ok for africans, however it is divided so unless it was thick enough to remove the divider it might not be much good?
  17. Phosphates is usually introduced.. Check your food and your water source and cut it at the source, I used to have very high phosphate levels in my tanks when I fed a cheap spirulina based food, it didn't bother the fish at all but my water looked like lime green cordial, as soon as I stopped with that food the phosphate levels dropped.
  18. Try one of your petshops? Failing that daily water changes and only feeding twice a week will keep things at bay until it has cycled..
  19. It seems strange that they are jumping.. I am wondering if your male has matured and starting to get hard on the females (dynamics and aggression etc change as the fish grow) fronts are usually colony type fish and you have a smaller number so I am wondering if the females are getting a really hard time and trying to get away? Either that or you just had 2 random jumpers! Either way it sucks..
  20. Sorry to hear about that Frontosa aren't usually known to be jumpers.. I would suggest that the fish are getting spooked or bullied so much they are jumping out.. How big is the tank? And do you have any lids on it?
  21. Sorry to say I agree it is a hybrid it does look like any pure fish I have seen in NZ.. It seems to resemble a brown hap in shape? While it is a hybrid it is almost impossible to guess what it might be a cross between (unless you know what tank it came out of and what fish were in it etc).
  22. Nice tank, it is looking awesome! Glad to see it out of your garage Good luck getting to the bottom of the tank to do anything with that depth but it is worth it becuase it looks awesome. Is the glass 12mm thick?
  23. Have been pretty slack recently and haven't been out there for a while to check them out but at a guess they would still be too young to breed.. I will have to go out and have a look think he has more species now..
  24. Gutted I had a feeling this was the case! It never ceases to amaze me how shops can get it so wrong, multis look nothing like them!!
