  1. The fry should be removed before the parents try to spawn again, when they are starting to spawn again the parents will probably eat them. Fights can occur when one of the parents tries to chase awawy the fry or eat them in preparation for the new fry and the other parent sees it and tries to defend the babies beating the other parent.
  2. First one could be an ice blue, and second could be male kenyi, does it get the inverted triangle barring on its side depending on mood?
  3. What are you feeding the fish? I had problems with green water when I was feeding foods that were high in phosphates. And the fish you have asked for an ID on is probably a hybrid zebra, however it doesn't appear to be coloured up properly and its not a full photo so maybe take another photo of the full fish when it is fully coloured up for another opinion.
  4. Also apparently spookers do a good murder/mystery type evening which would be good for a work do.
  5. Races are always good, alexandra park is awesome, it isn't cheap but usually includes free drinks (beer/wine/spirits) until the end of the last race and a pretty good buffet dinner (goes as far as oysters/scallops etc).
  6. What are you feeding them? And I agree you need to treat with metro ASAP.
  7. Could be kadango to, but at the end of the day the pic in the picture does look hybrid, yours I am not so sure of.. Give it some time to colour up and see what happens, where did you get them from?
  8. There is no point in trying to identify the hybrid but your one looks like it has some D. Comp in it. jckingjc it is probably a good idea to go to a proper site to look at photos of fish, cichlid-forum, fish base etc would be better places to go than a sale site. I pulled my Ad Konings books out and on the page for Protomelas taeniolatus (red empress) there are 8 different variants from 8 different parts of the lake, each look distantly different, varying degrees of red differing barring etc so it is very hard to pull an ID off a random photo off the internet. Plus the photo you have has a fancy trade name associated with it (Super Red Empress Fire Hap) meaning it is probably a line bred strain probably not comparable to what we have in NZ.
  9. Looking good mate Loving the fish they all look great.
  10. I wouldn't do 10 in a 60L tank, they can be quite agro and stake out territories, you can do a pair in the smaller tank but would have to have lots of rockwork and keep a close eye on them. I had to regularly separate mine when the female got smacked up, I just chucked the male and shell into a breeding trap with a lid so he couldn't jump out.
  11. Nice fish Ron, I have seen these in person! I hope you can breed them and spread them around..

    My claim to fame

    What a small world
  13. Just send me a text and I will come over Lithos are going great they were 2 girls and both have held but one spat and one I stripped 2 early and lost the fry, but things are looking good Good work on the dems! I picked up some the other day and mine have just started to breed again too

    eye biters?

I agree with this, I have had plenty of eye biters over the years and not had any aggression issues.. They are predators though so would clean up any small fish or fry but my adult ones didn't eat dems/yellows or female peacocks so it wasn't an issue for me.
  15. I think the darker one would look better however you may find some of your fish are darker and them being on a darker background will mean you don't see them as much becuase there wont be much contrast between fish and back ground (if that makes any sense). lol so really I am not helping at all because I have suggested both of them. Your tank and fish looks great BTW
  16. Just mains water and I think it's the same supply..
  17. I don't know much about marine fish and it would depend on their size but I always ask for fish bigger than around 4-5cm fish in separate bags from the shops, they think I am rediculious but I have had too many fish smash each other up in the bags and get quite beaten up or die in a short period after purchasing them.
  18. Glad to hear it I am not sure how many meetings I can attend but will def join when details of how to are posted
  19. Nice fish mate I recognise a few of them that peacock is a cobue, hope you have a girl because I lost mine and don't know of anyone else with them, I did sell a few though so they should be around..
  20. The odds of the electric yellows and blues breeding together are low, yellows are mbuna and the electric blues are haps so it is less likely. As with any breeding in a mixed tank you would have to be very careful if you were breeding fish for sale, all africans can and will cross the only way to guarantee purity is to have species tanks.
  21. Electric yellows are probably one of the most passive african cichlids.. They will be fine with electric blues and demasoni, probably looking at a bare min of a 200L 4ft for adult fish, the electric blues being haps will possibly outgrow this but that will take a number of years.
  22. Apistos seem to go in cycles, sometimes we have tons and then others we have none.. It doesn't help with they keep "apistoing" for no reason without breeding when we do have them
  23. Building terraces with lots of substrate and rocks or wood looks pretty cool and adds height to the tank.
  24. Electric blue are just a colour morph of a standard blue (or german blue) ram so the offspring should be viable, and unless the standard ram carries the electric blue genes (ie it is also an electric blue X) most or all of the offspring will be normal. If you breed offspring between each other you will get a split, or breed offspring back to the electric blue parent to get a larger split.
