  1. Gutted Adodge I hope the remaining fish recover for you..
  2. I think it also depends on how happy the fish is and the colour of the substrate etc some fish darken up or lighten depending on their surroundings.
  3. I didn't get scanned for my carry on luggage when I was going through Wellington, Wellington was only a stop over for me though, maybe if my first or last destination was Welly then it might have been different?
  4. I had a whole heap of fish in my carry on luggage when I flew from Blenheim to Wellington to Palmy and had no issues.. I didn't ask permission I just did it though
  5. They are the same fish the name has just been changed several times.. They don't come in very often, the importer that brought in some of the latest german bred fish tried to bring some in but they didn't make it through quarantine according to the hollywoods thread. There are some sitting in a tank in Christchurch that I am waiting for the owner to breed :)
  6. I have never seen them (that does not mean they are not allowed nor in the country though) but have seen Crenicara filamentosa or Dicrossus filamentosa which are awesome little fish..
  7. Sounds like you need to be less concerned about the punishment and more concerned about finding a new flat
  8. lol patience grass hopper The last thing you want to do when you are asking someone for a favor is to pester them so much they wont do it..
  9. 12 or even more would be fine, I have 14 adults and 10 3-4cm in the same sized tank with red empresses, brown haps (15 of these), small dolphins, small albino auratus and a trio of peacocks.. Maybe your ice blue will be ok but I have found them to be ticking time bombs. I used to read articles on them thinking I had mellow ones until they turned lol Awesome looking fish though Dems should keep to themselves they will give the odd chase to other tank mates if they come near their favorite rock etc but should be fine.
  10. I know almost nothing about plants but have noticed this person locally selling pond plants http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listin ... mcat=0004- HTH..
  11. No point in naming family members as there will as Barrie said be lots of them, let us just remember those that have served our country and those that have lost their lives in doing so.. Also condolences to the families and friends of the people who died today in the huey crash in Wellington I am not looking forward to work tomorrow..
  12. No reason to rehome anything to fit the dems in.. I would rehome the ice blue though he is 99% guaranteed to turn into a menace and take over your tank..
  13. There would be no point in joining the 2 canisters together, I mean it would work but you would need to have one filled up as your prefilter and the other as your biomedia.. I would juts run the 2 independently that way if something does happen to one of them you still have filtration and your fish don't die
  14. When they start breeding it is a good sign.. I have had them holding as small as 3-4cm but as already said that female only had like 4 babies in her mouth.. How big are yours currently? Are they showing any breeding type behavior?
  15. Looks like the tank is still going well It is a nice tank in person pretty amazing jungle in there.. Where are the pics of the kribs?
  16. I had phosphate issues and traced it back to the food I was feeding so maybe change foods and see if that helps? I had lime green water and phosphates off the chart and none of the fish were affected it just looked bad when you stuck the water in a bag to catch fish..
  17. Very interesting mix, your livingstonii will be very happy and well fed for a while when he gets bigger I would say if nothing is eating the tiger barbs and kribs then some bristlenoses would be fine. I would err on the side of caution though and introduce them just before lights out so they have a chance to settle and find a hidey hole before the fish get too nosy..
  18. Depends on how big and what types of africans you have?
  19. They probably will given a chance, however if you have other fish in the tank then they will probably eat the fry anyway so it is no biggie It is a shame you don't have a matching female for your macmasteri!
  20. This batch happened a week or so ago so I don't think this is what has happened to your fish.. As for what is wrong with your fish I am unsure maybe Jen could help, initial guess on the lump could be anything from a parasite to a random lump to a bacterial infection..
  21. I think that Barrie posted once saying that it was as strong as the smallest piece of glass that was laminated together, so 2 x 5mm pieces is not the same as 1 x 10mm.. But I am sure he can clear that up
  22. Did you only just recently get these fish? A friend of mine locally brought one from the local animates only to have it die a few days later and then their current (healthy) other 2 neon dwarf rainbows die. They went into the store to find the entire tank in quarantine as well. Maybe it is a dud batch that has come through the importers?
  23. Sometimes the substrate can irritate africans gills causing them discomfort as they dig in it alot. Have you looked really closely to make sure they don't have whitespot or anything like that?
  24. Firstly how big is the tank and how big are the fish? Secondly it is very hard to tell without knowing what the 2 hybrid things are (if they are hybrids they could have a dubious or unknown temperament) Bigger schooling fish sometimes go well with africans, I have kept rainbows with mine. I have also kept clown loaches with them as well. I have also seen things like silver sharks and silver dollars in with them. And recently a big african tank with a heap of quite big fish (some haps too) with some breeding guppies cruising around the top.
  25. Round the mouth I would usually say poor breeding but could be food related.. This is a thread that pretty much does it to death http://fishkeepers.co.nz/forums/viewtop ... =18&t=1554
