  1. Yeah mines low temp i think, i sit them in a tank which is only around 25-26, using the brand that comes in the blue tins.
  2. hey we have a lone glass cat fish in our planted tank and instead of being glassie it has gone kind of cloudy and splotchy, it looks as if it has fungus on its insides cause if i look straight down it theres nothing protruding off it, theres also guppies (that dont seem to do very well and die all the time), neons which are dying from old age (they over 2 years old) and breeding bristlenose's which are doing great, also a flying fox (sae) which is doing great and growing fast as. pH is about 6.8 and no nitrates, or ammonia.
  3. rainbow melanchromis are either Melanochromis joanjohnsonae or Labidochromis textilis i think.
  4. this is what i have known people to do in the past when the need power to somewhere out side. They use and outdoor extension cord, put put it in the plastic tubing thats kinda flexible so can go round corners and stuff and then berried it bout 30cm in the ground, only thing you have to be carful of is making sure the pipe cant fill up with water from the rain or anything. Or you can just run the piping along the ground if you dont feel like digging a long trench.
  5. Hey just wondering what other mbuna avaliable we need a few new fish to change things around. we currently have Labidochromis caeruleus (electric yellows) (breeding) Melanochromis auratus Melanochromis joanjohnsonae (just one need more) Metriaclima estherae (Red)and (O) (breeding) Metriaclima greshakei (breeding) Metriaclima lombardoi (trying to breed) Pseudotropheus crabro (breeding) Pseudotropheus demasoni (Pombo Rocks) (breeding) And what i think is Pseudotropheus socolofi (Albino) i know theres Melanochromis johannii, Labidochromis textilis, Labeotropheus trewavasae out there but would like to know of other ones.
  6. Yea we are like that at the moment, stripped a bumble bee (79 fry) and a ice blue zeb (21 fry), have an electic yellow holding, estharae holding, 2 demanosi holding (we ended up with 2 males and 2 females ) and another lot of bristle nose eggs, and the female brichardi has been hiding lately so wouldnt be surprised if shes gone off and laid.
  7. I would say its closest to a kenyi, but it just doesn't look right, We have 2 male's in our tank and ones already fully orange/yellow and the other ones in the middle and your one just doesnt look right sorry. Its diffinitly not a bumble bee, we have a breeding ppair so if your after any let us know lol got 79 fry from one mouth full yesterday
  8. I use 2 table spoons of sallt for a litre of water, and i use water out of the african tank so water is always around 8ish and then one tea spoon of eggs, and let them sit for about 36 hours, was finding wasnt getting a good hatch rate after 24 hours.
  9. No, But we would really love some. Are you going to be selling them?
  10. Our plant is finally flowering will post some pics tonight when i get home.!!
  11. we also have some spare males around the same size as Krib's we have 3 males and 4 females so would let one go for you if you needed one
  12. No they weren't snails they were like little slugs didn't have hard shells or anything
  13. Just cleaned out our cannister filter and there were these little creatures in there, they were little brown things oval shaped maybe 1-2mm across and 2-3mm long, and there where heaps of white shaped eggs by the looks of it measuring about the same, wondering what these are have never seen them before, going to clean out one of our other cannister filters so if there are any in there will try get a photo just worryed that it would be a parasite so any light shed on this would be a great help!
  14. knowing my luck we will ned up with 4 males or 4 females lol gonna be chucking about 40 bumble bees and 40 auratus in the grow out tank this weekend so gonna need to move some of them on this week.
  15. ours are in our grow out tank with about 50 e.yellows and 20 kenyi and 2 ice blues and havent seem them fighting at all
  16. yeah i would also like to get some more, we brought 6 and have had 2 mysteriously disappear so kinda gutted, first fish's we have lost in age's too.
  17. I find anything moving past our tank that is black spooks the fish, black t-shirt, paper, a glass of coke lol, our 3 foot is right next to our fridge and i used the side of the stand to pour my coke into the glass sometimes and that would always spook the fish, its just something about black that none of them like.
  18. try adding some of the haplochromis speices, they are more of a open water fish so wont hide in the rocks or anything, we have dolphins in our tank and have never had all the fish want to hide, but for some reason occasionally our fish will get spooked and all try to hide including the dolphins, which i think are the ones that spook the easiest.
  19. Yeah just let it grow crazy, snipped the older leaves off as they were getting holy, ours have been propogating by runners, we have 2 smallish ones that will be up for sale soon(just removed the from the main plant and making sure they survive all good so far) and a third has just started to show itself
  20. Yay our tiger lotus is gonna flower will take some photos when it does :bounce: :bounce:
  21. i'll take a photo of my brine shrimp set up its made from coke bottles but works extremely well and simple too.
  22. We use aroganite in our tanks, bit expensive though, $45 for a 25kg sack, about the same with the coral sand. You can use calcite gravel from stone and water world which is like $20 for a 25kg sack not sure on its buffering and pH capabilitys though
  23. yeah thats it, in my opinion i would try avoid those sorts of chemicals, try putting oyster shells(bird grit) or crushed coral in your filter or something or make up your own ph buffer using this website http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/buffer_recipe.php
  24. Hey does anyone know how to train tiger lotus to grow its leaves to a certain level and not to reach the top of the tank, cause at the moment we cant even feed the fish cause theres to many leaves on the top.
  25. probably the more important thing with africans is to give them stable water conditions so try use something to keep the hardness up so you dont have any pH swings and then just try get your pH above 7
