  2. Just finishing set up my new tank and have a durso stand pipe. have drilled a 2mm hole in the top but its sucking in some air and bubbling in the sump, was wondering if there was a way to fix this, whether its making the hole bigger or smaller. Have tryed partly covering the hole but it keeps sucking and bubbling. Will try get a photo up later so you can understand what im on about.
  3. They are being imported as heckelii, unfortunatly its not the shops faultsscientific names can't be given, the importers don't give scientific names.
  4. only have the filter wool there as the only mechanical filtration, no other sponges etc, as of sunday when i get my sump will be removing the cannister and adding an extra 100+ litres to the tank, have got the hang on overflow so will see how it goes, if it doesnt work or floods my floor will get a new tank built with an overflow.
  5. running a external but all it has in it is filterwool that i change fortnightly and the odd phosphate removing pouch, nothing else in it.
  6. already ordered one, will get it on thursday, going for a reefoctopus overflow box, going for a sump so i can use miracle mud and calupera, find nitrates are to hard to keep doing using just water changes, to many fish and feeding to much i suspect.
  7. I dont want to drill the tank or make one, so just wanting any recommendations on the ones you can buy, for me drilling the tank is to risky and making one takes to much time.
  8. My tank, few changes, no more leathers, added a octopus coral and fox coral.
  9. Just wanting to get some info on the hang-on overflows. First off i need one that keeps the water level no more (ie not 40mm) than 30mm from the top of the tank, from what i can tell the tunze ones water level will be about 80mm from the top of the tank. AquaOne and reef octopus not so sure about. Also any problems with running one? Going on an established tank so drilling not and option.
  10. what about if your phosphates are really low, mine only get to 0.03 on the salifert test and then i stick in more phosphate remover and it goes back to zero and i have bubble algae every where...... although my nitrates have crept up a bit, around 10.
  11. hollywoods always has some up for sale, if not they can order it.
  12. Yeah i only added approx a 3rd of the vial of reef booster, keeping the rest in the fridge will it be fine in there mixed with a bit of salt water from my tank? Also how many hours a day should i have my lights on for. Have 1 arcadia marine white and a marine-glo, going to be adding another marine white and a arcadia marine blue soonish.
  13. Yesterday morning I dosed suppliements, iodine and strontium (both salifert) and reef booster, turned my skimmer off and went to work. Came home and all the corals were shrivelled up. My tank is approx 170L, running a deltec MCE600 hang on, 2 eheim compact 1000's for flow, and a canister filter for filter wool and resins, and at this stage a double t5 unit. My thinking was that turning off the skimmer for the whole day, meant less oxygen in the water. Anyone can help more?
  14. hollywood fish farm albany has some but only about 4-5cm
  15. Just setting up my tank and has been running for about a week now, using a MCE 600, but having problems with micro bubbles and larger bubbles from the water from the skimmer going back into the tank. Any tips on how to fine tune this skimmer and eliminate bubbles in the water?
  16. hmmm biggiest is probably an inch, wouldnt be much bigger. at the moment they still stripey, but some are getting red along the dorsal fin and yellow/red along their bellys
  17. got the firefox, couldnt get any further info on them so will have to wait to see what they colour up like.
  18. Have brought 12 and are in a 1220x460x460 tank, so far had them one day and are all eating fine, at the moment using jbl novo vege flake and jbl novo vert which is a granule. Found out supplier was feeding them ox heart and blood worms and standard flake after i brought them, would you recomment soaking all there food in metro for a week or so, have got ahold of metro so have no problems there.
  19. Anyone got any advice about keeping tropheus moorii, feeding, water conditions, medicating, things to look out for.
  20. Does anyone have any information on either of these fish, either colourations or names that i can find on the net, have googled them but cant find them?
  21. i'll also had probs with giraffe's, used to have 6 and the large male, bout 30cm killed them off one by one, then started fighting with my large bumble bee male, the fights got so bad that they were lifting each other out of the water while jaw locked.

I can tell you what fish (mainly cichlids) are available from hollywood fish farm and what they can order in on requeste, quite a few different peacocks avaliable at the moment, names are, red, marble, baenschi, freiberg's and electric blue frieyei (spelling), but will all have to be ordered in they arent stocking any.
  23. Ryan, your green water problem sounds like something thats really common on the north shore, no one has yet pin pointed its cause, have tested tanks with green water and nitrates and phosphates can be low, nitrite and ammonia is 0, pH is fine and lights are fine and running the right amount of time, and no direct sunlight on the tank, have even seen 2 tanks side by side, both using the same light tube and one tank gets it and the other doesn't and have tested everything and no found a cause. Not sure if its a algae or bacteria, but in my experience no amount of water changes fix's the problem, it just keeps coming back. Best way to get rid of it is use a UV sterilizer, but if not one way is to use a water clarifer (either clarity or magic clear work best) and use filter wool in your filter and just filter the green water out, if your using a desent filter this can be done quickly, but should be carried on after your tank is clear just to make sure you get all of it.
  24. Going by the cichlid forum i'd say the ones i have are just julie transcriptus, no varient at all, dont look like any of the ones that have a varient.
