  1. Your osiris is one of the common amazon swords (either E. amazonicus or bleheri) Hard to tell which from the pic.
  2. It is hard to tell because they can vary so much but the leaves and flowers look like affinis. Most pics of flowers are emersed and so might be slightly different as well.
  3. It also destroys Valisneria and riccia.
  4. It sounds like all is well and you just need to wait for them to hatch. You will need bbs or microworm or both to give the fry a good start when they hatch.
  5. That is why I made the comment that he may restore the reputation of the American people. Invading a foreign country under false pretences and being responsible for the deaths of thousands of their, and your own people is hardly the way to make friends and influence people.
  6. Have another coffee--they know when to hatch (mostly)
  7. Good pics. Your polysperma is the verigated one "rosanevig". It looks like you have good light and added ferts.

    CO2

You don't need CO2. I have heavily planted tanks without CO2. If you want to do the CO2 thing you also need added fertizers and strong light as well. Any one without the others will not achieve much. With the right balance of all three you will get increased plant growth.
  9. Agreed. Time will tell if Obama is any good, but I don't think he would have to be too smart to do better than what they have at present and the people obviously know that.
  10. What you need is an inert media so the worms come up to feed on what you are giving them rather than staying in the media and feeding on that. That way they are a lot easier to harvest.
  11. I used to fill up a large plastic bag fom a friend's oxy-acetalyne welding gear.
  12. Depending a lot on the type of food you are feeding and the frequency of water changes you will also be building up the concentration of phosphate. Problems with algae usually start when the phosphate/nitrate ratio gets out of whack and can be often corrected by the addition of nitrate (in the form of KNO3) to bring the nitrate up to 20ppm. That being the case it is not a problem and could even go a little higher. Have a coffee and enjoy watching your fish as all is well.
  13. I had about a dozen in a 12 gallon tank but they were small (below legal catch size no doubt). We used to get whitebait, baby eals and smelt also.
  14. They bury in the bottom media so would stir up mud. Fine sand would be good. They are good at blending and hiding.
  15. The problem is not ethnic it is minorities. All minorities have a feeling they are not being heard and frequently you have to wonder at the savvy of the majority--after all, they voted for George W. Unfortunately the most intelligent 49% of the population are a minority.
  16. They are even nicer stuffed with garlic, ginger, soya sauce and sesame oil (don't tell wok he will be down here next week.)
  17. I kept them for a couple of years and they were realy neat. We used to get the odd one when taking tubifex from the south branch of the Waimakariri river. We fed them mainly tubifex worms and they would stick to the side of the tank like sucking catfish. Mine were small, about the size of the old 50c piece. I had no refrigeration and suspect they died from getting too hot in summer. Great fish if you can get them. That was 30 years ago and the tubifex has pretty well gone so if that was the atraction they may not be there now. There is I suspect a minimum take size.
  18. You can get chemicals from the pet shop to help control algae as well. Some fish may be sensitive to them---someone else may have experience in that regard.
  19. Many people in America seem obsessed with being American, saluting the flag and supporting foreign policy no matter how bad it is. They forget that the only reason they are American is because that is where their mother was when she gave birth. If she had been is Sri Lanka they would be Sri Lankan. It is not as if they had anything to do with it. Obama is not African American--he is American with a Nigerian father the same as many Americans have Italian or Irish parents. One day we may get wise enough to see the man inside. If he were a Maori he would be very respected as an orator--he is one of the best speakers I have heard and to do that you need a fine brain and have it connected to your mouth--not like an unsuccessful VP candidate I forgot the name of. May his god go with him for the sake of us all.
  20. Yes it is Hygrophila polysperma also known as Indian star grass (but it comes from Sri Lanka I think) Stargrass is Heteranthera zosteraefolia Hard to tell with the plant with the red stalks as it looks like it has been grown emersed (probably a Ludwigia) The blue Hygrophila is sold also as H. angustifolia but I think is actually H. salicifolia. Cherry leaf is H. stricta also known as temple plant I think.
  21. It is called spirallis because of the spiralling flower stem but has straight leaves. The twisted leafed ones are torta and contortionist amongst others.
