  1. Id love to see your pond Kyle
  2. Hi, I have had some really good sucess by seperating females from the males for a week or two. During that time I pump the females full of brine shrimp everyday untill they look like a balloon. If you put about an inch of peat on the bottom of a small tank or bucket as well as a breeding container ( hole in top with peat ) that covers all corners. The female will soon lay all her eggs within a 24hr period and then you can put in the next female and so on and so on...... DONT FEED THEM WHILST YOU HAVE THEM IN THE SPAWING TANK AS THIS CAN SOMETIMES POLUTE THE WATER AND PEAT WHILST INCUBATING.After a week or two, syphon out the peat and give it a gentle squeeze in a net and then let it dry slightly on newspaper for an hour or two. Divide the peat up into 4 bags and then try and store at different temps. After 14-15 days just dump the peat into a shallow container of tank water and blow me down you will be a dad many times during the following 1-5 days. If feed my new fry liquifry for the first 2-3days and then start with the brine shrimp. If you are a NZKA member then you can pick up a tin of bbs at a good price at present. Well thats my 2c worth for now...got to feed myself Id love to stop in sometime and see your Killies. Cheers AQUANUT
  3. Hi all. Ive just shipped some of those killies from my auction on TM to Nelson and they are doing just fine. They even took two days to get there!! Does anyone still want some? The killies I have for sale are the ones pictured with a heater in the background. AQUANUT
  4. Hi Penjane, I lost one of my female Albinos over the holidays however I promise to send some done within the next 2 weeks. PM me to discuss details if youre still interested. Now that you are a Killi fish member I really want to help. Cheers Aquanut
  5. Well I will hopefully have the following: Aphyosemion Australe Chocolate Nothobranchius Korthausae Yellow Fundulopanchax Gardneri Albino Fundulopanchax Gardneri Nigeriatum Gold Fundulopancdax Sjoestedi (Got to love the SJO's ) And maybe a few other little numbers that only some members may know about  Keep in touch near the middle of Dec and maybe you could get a group of Southerners to meet up at once and join the club at the same time. Im new to this hobby but would love to pass on the knowledge ( thanks to Alan W ) to others who are keen for a chat about Keep Keeping Killies over a coffee or beer Tim
  6. Id be more than happy to do that Alan. Its so good to see the club alive and finning Tim
  7. Ive recently hatched out 200+ notho yellows. It was easy and Ive got the daily feeding and water changes down pat so that I can spend the rest of the evening watching them, doing water changes and collecting and hatching eggs. Like I said, if I have eggs around the 25th of Dec, Im going down to Queenstown to be with family and would love to go on a road trip and meet people and drop off either fish or eggs at a small nominal price. This only applie to NZKA members of course so if you havnt joined then do it soon. Tim

Hi Penejane, Im coming down to Queenstown on Christmas day if you want me to bring some killies down? Either I could drive down or you could meet me on boxing day? Tim
  9. Hi all NZKA members. My father has taken on the task of cleaning the fish pond in his "Older person complex". He has asked if any of you lot would be prepared to donate a gold fish or two (really needs around 20 big ones as the pond is 5sqm). Any species would be fine. He is also looking for gold fish pond plants. So if any of you could help in the Auckland area that would be great. Of course I am prepared to pay but just wouldnt tell him :-) If there are any of you in the Bay of Plenty area, I will be down your way on the 17th-19th of November. Oh by the way, Ive suddenly got heaps of SJO eggs so I'll keep you posted on how they go and get some to members if they are interested. Cheers Tim

Im still looking for 1 or 2 FEMALE golden wonders. Can anyone help? My 2 males are getting rather close to each other!!! Just an update. I now have 8 tanks (2xMALE golden wonders, gardneri nigereanum golds, australe chocolates, gardneri albino's, SJO's and a matter of 200 kortahausae yellows which are charging on bbs every day. Ive only lost 1 fry to a very greedy snail!) I started out with quite small mops but have gone to larger ones and Im getting eggs from all species. Its great but planning for a holiday is a little harder now :-) Ive been experimenting with different peat laying containers with different size entry holes with my kort yellow adults but havnt had much success with them laying eggs. Can one of you lot describe, in detail, how to prepare a tray. Aquanut

Thats a great idea. Im just concerned that the temp of the water, amount of salt and water condition might be wrong. Im doing a trial now without really knowing what exactly the right conditions should be. Nice to meet you.

Thankyou Alan. Just so members know, I arrived at 10:30 with the intention of leaving half an hour later. I left at 3pm!!! Thanks for answering those PM's last night Alan. I would love some help from other members too. I dont have a fish room. I have 3 20LTR tanks. 3heaters, 3airfilters and of course 3 sets of Killies (They did survive the night). I intend to get more tanks ( I know, MTS )as I also have some eggs in peat. A few questions please. Is MTS curable? What is the ideal temp for Killi tanks? Are they all the same? If Im water incubating Aphyosemion's, can I hold collected eggs in floating container in the parents tank to keep water temp? How often should you change Parents water vs fry water? It didnt rain in Auckland today! So Im going to use tap water and AQ+ water cond but wondered what else in need to consider? Who has the best description/photos for setting up BBS breeder? Look forward to hearing from you all soon :bounce:

So to clarify: AquaNut is Tim Steves Killies is Steve ( The genius on Amano style tanks ) Who in the NZKA is from Auckland as Im new to breeding killies and would love to chat/see some local fish. Oh and Im looking forward to catching up with you shortly Alan Tim
