Hi Brite, As far as I know Gupies are a tropical fish, and should be in warm water, you may find that it hasn't helped by putting them into your Goldfish Tank which should be cold water, this has probably put extra stress on the fish aswell as it not being well, so the combination of the two has probably led to it's death, is your pregnant Guppy in cold water or warm ? Good Luck Lynda

Hi Casey05, Sorry to hear about your Neon dying , from what I've been told Neons aren't a terribly hardy fish, thought I might get a shoal of 15 or so as they do look neat when there is a mass of them. Good Luck with the rest of your fishies. Lynda

Hi Antwan, Welcome back to this very exciting hobby, soundz as tho it wont be long and you may be selling your fishies back on Trade Me again, you certainly have a nice variety too choose from, will have to keep an eye out for ya. You will find the people here, full of knowledge and advice, I have learnt so much since joining this forum. Happy Fishing Lynda :bounce: :bounce:

Yes, they very good at hiding, 1 of mine disappears for the whole day, and only comes out at night, I have since discovered the he lives in the handle of a lantern ornament that I have in the tank, sometimes I really wonder just how he fits in there, he seems to be quite a bit bigger than the handle of the Lantern. I'm sure he is going to have to find another hiding place soon or he's gonna be getting himself/herself stuck. :bounce: Lynda

I have had Neons in with my Angelfish before without any problems at all, the only problem I find with Neons is they are not very hardy, think Cardinals are better, even tho they are abit more expensive, and they do look great in a big group. Lynda

Hi there Mikey, Soundz as tho your tank is coming along nicely, what about adding some, Gourami's, Swordtails, Serpae Tetras, Neons, Black Neons, Catfish there's definitely lots of choice's out there. Yes I agree with Manaro, I have 2 Clown Loaches, I never saw them, they were always hiding, bought another 1 and now they are out and about all the time, beautiful fish. Good Luck with ya fish shopping. Lynda -
Thanks for your help everyone, I will do a water change now and will test again in the morning. Do I do a vaccum aswell or just change the water? Discusguru: Don't think its a faulty test kit , will test again in the morning. :-? Thanks again Lynda
-
I cant work out why this has happened, I do water changes twice a week takinng out approx 20% of the water, I have no driftwood in this tank, when I planted the new plants yesterday I fertilised them with Sera fert tablets could this have anything to do with it? Lynda
-
So what do you guys advice me to do then? Should I start by doing a water change, I cant get any of this Prime until tomorrow anyway, do you think my fish will be OK untill then, is this likely to cause any deaths, they are all looking quite happy at the moment, what do you guys suggest I do re: the PH when I put this Prime in the tank then, do I add PH up while I'm getting rid of these Nitrates, and what causes the Nitrates to get so high? Thanks for the help Lynda
-
Thanks Blue and Kim, If I use the Prime, which is meant to wipe out the Nitrates immediately, what effect does this have on the fish, is it like adjusting the PH does it have to be done slowly?
-
Hi Guys, HELP!!!! Just did some testing of the water in my tropical tank, readings are: PH 6 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates over 160 Did a water change yesterday and added a few more new plants, this tank is heavily planted and has been for months, don't know what has caused this and how do I fix it, read in the Master Test Kit, doing water changes can make this worse, what do I do? :-? :-? Any HELP would be great. Lynda

Hi Radu, From past experience in having to increase PH, I have been advised to add bird grit to increase your PH, this can be put into the tank in an old cut up pair of pantyhose, and then placed in your tank, this may take a few days for the PH to increase, but it is important not to increase the PH to quickly as this can cause the fish to go into PH shock. Good Luck Lynda

How amazing, and these little micro-organisms just grow from that, incredible, thanks guys for the info at least now I no what I am reading about. Lynda

Hi James, you have certainly come to the right forum, lots of great advice and I might add, humor. Great people hear.  I have to agree with Caryl, how do you work in a LFS and not have a house full of tanks and every spieces of fish there is? Great to have you here. Lynda -
Hi Guys, I don't mean to sound dumb, but I have been seeing this word "Infusoria" could somebody please enlighten me as to what this is and what it is used for? Lynda
-
Hi Marty, sorry to hear about your fishies that have dies, After having a 4ft tropical tank for 5 yrs, Since I joined this forum, not that long ago, I have learnt soooo much info from the guys on here, and I too lost a heap of fishies, when I first started out in this hobby, but keep on with it and you will reap the rewards, there's nothing nicer than to be able to sit and watch your little fishies swimming around. Happy fishing.
-
I will have to agree with Caryl, never heard it called saddle back before, and wasn't aware of the white fluffy fungus type stuff that froms on the fishies back, I was told, from a very good pet shop in Palmy North, that Colomanaris is when the fishes spine is curved or droopy, and it looses the ability to swim properly. :-?
-
Pleased to hear that your Sailfin Molly has recovered, rather neat fishies, I have 2 Dalmations Mollies, and yes it's very frustrating when the tank doesn't look nice and clean, I always had a problem with the water going cloudy, after I had added fertiliser for my plants, but nothing that a few water changes wont fix. Happy fishing.
-
Really Sorry to hear about your daughters fish Rudolf, there's nothing worse than to think, if only I was here, maybe I could have helped the poor fishie, sometimes there's just nothing we can do.

I"m not sure what to do with my power filter, I had this in my Angel breeding tank about a week ago, and I ended up loosing both of my Breeding Angels and all of the babies, to some mysterious bug in the water, or something like that, still not sure what killed them all, not sure what to do with the power filter that is in the tank, that the fishies died in, I am wanting to put this filter back into my community tank, Do I need to sterilise it or something before putting it back into my community tank?, Will the bug, if there was one, be living in the sponge of the filter? Do I need to get a new sponge? Help!, not sure how to handle this problem, dont want to put it back in the community tank and then find that all the fishies in that tank die. Any help would be great. Lynda

Hi there, was wondering if anyone has had a problem with their water turning cloudy after adding plant fertiliser to the water, I have noticed this the last couple of times that I have fertilised my plants, I am using the Aqua Master Plant Fertiliser, I am dosing around 30mls a week in a 330ltr tank, to over come this problem I need to do around three water changes, over three days to rectify the cloudiness, but I dont see the point of this, as I am just removing the fertiliser, that I have just put in. Any help would be great. Lynda

Been watching these weird fishies, this arvo, isn't it amazing just how quickly they can dart back and forth when they are in the middle of their mating dance, and the way he sticks his fin up, just like he's saying "hey look at me, aren't I just gorgeous", feel abit sorry for the female molly who he could be mating with, maybe I should be feeling sorry for him, lets face it, he ain't gonna be getting anywhere, with who he's trying to mate with. Silly Fishie, will be interesting to see just how long this mating game goes on for before he actually realises, he's not getting anywhere. Lynda

Hi Caper, Thanks for that info, hmmm, yes well, so you have strange fishies to then? The male Molly was doing his little dance around the Black Widow again this afternoon, must admit, quiet interesting to watch, I keep telling him, he's doing it with the wrong fishie, but just doesn't seem to listen haha, anyway I keep ya posted. Lynda
