    how high??

measure your arm. prob shouldnt go deeper than the length of your fingers to armpit. you will end up with your hands in tank a fair bit more than you would like, so it would be nice to actually be able to reach the bottom..

    how high??

go deep dude! will look awesome... you can just use a mask and snorkel to access the bottom.......
  4. pretty sure they need to be fertilized in the water
  5. i think petplanet are going to get some in. also dogmatix is looking at doing a bulk order - http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/bulk-buy-of-ro-di-units-are-you-keen--vt9570.html
  6. is there a better auto feeder available?
  7. anyone ever used one of these? are they any good?

    RO top up.

dam thats alot... you could put a lid on tank / sump. i have lid on tank, and partial lid on sump, and it cut my evap by about 2/3. still lose around 1-2ltr a day though
  9. may be a good experiment.... id imagine it would be pretty different though
  10. bunnings dont seem to have the bulkheads in their hansens bits section, i got mine from hollywood frost rd.
  11. pays to shop around for gear too, aquarium stores are by no means the cheapest places to buy hardware. most stuff you could get between 1/3 - 1/2 cheaper buying online. [sorry LFSs  ]
  12. def. worth doing it right the first time. i have made the mistake of buying cheap gear before, only to replace it a few months later. if you are like alot of us here, you will end up wanting a large tank eventually, so you may as well get gear that will be suitable for a large system. also, good quality gear will have a reasonably high resale value, should you ever opt out of the game...
  13. lolz brian.......... may as well spend it on something, you cant take it with you...
  14. surely most corals we have in tanks are both not large enough and are in consistant strong current that this dosent really apply..... wish i had acros so big that they blocked water flow
  15. speaking of kalk, can anyone suggest a good kalk stirrer [good=cheap]
  16. photos dont really do tanks justice.... ive seen a few of the tanks in this thread and theyre heaps more impressive than the photos.
  17. no recommended dosage, just keep drinking it until you dont care about the algae anymore........
  18. cheers wasp, thats what i was after...... do you think that a decent amount of rock will be able to perform enough nitrate reduction? i guess its hard to say, without examining the bioload etc of the tank. one way to find out i guess...... out comes the DSB
  19. Layton go hard if you want to put that info up. im sure it will be of use to alot of people.
  20. cool. cheers for spending ur 2000th post on me rekon the jury's still out on the aragonite - PH one though will have to do some more research..
  21. wouldnt rock also store phosphates and metals then, if it was performing denitrification? i have plenty of rock, both in tank and first chamber of sump. i wonder if this will be enough..... anyone else have an opinion on the aragonite - PH thing, or see any pitfalls with removing sand / plants in fuge, leaving tank completely sandless? if sand was used in a fluidised form, then surely it wouldnt store phosphates etc nearly as much as if crud was allowed to settle on it, as with a sand bed, only react to the ph changes and [depending on whose side you take] release carbonate.....
  22. just looking for a bit of direction on what to do with the tank. ideally i want to remove the sand altogether, but dont want to lose the positive effects of having it there - nitrate removal, PH stability etc.
