    WCMM"s DOA

Does it matter what the contents were if the box was well packed and got stepped on? I would still give it a go. By that logic if you sent a package of fish and a postman smashed it into the ground and ran it over with his truck you wouldnt be entitled to any re-imbersment. I would say that if you can show the box was well packaged they might be inclined to do something. Whinging can achieve quite a lot.
  2. Just found out we have some brasso - made it look better, but unfortunately the side I sanded with the drill attachment is still pretty scratched, and I think all my sand paper is clogged. Will try again tomorrow.

I would hit the courier company up about it and get them to pay for it.
  4. Yeah sometimes this site doesnt seem to be able to show some images. I cant see the pics when I load them load them into my browser either - maybe the links are wrong?
  5. Yeah, when its all clean it will be an awsome tank - I might even keep it. There is a light built into the hood too and it came with the ug filter and other stuff. Glad I saved it from the dump!
  6. Im not a fresh water person and I dont have a tank, but I just found "the Complete Aquarium" Encyclopedia - and "the temperature should be 20C - 25C, and is sensitive to to sudden changes in temperature and water composition. This is for "Poecilia Reticulata" - the common guppy. Hope that helps?
  7. Just thought I'd update how its going. Well, my dad had some auto car cutting cream stuff, which worked really well for the unsanded sides. The other sides are a lot better than they were, but I think I need a w/d paper higher than 400 which is what I've got. My dad also has a drill attachment thats a buffer/sander, but on one side where I sanded with that is worse than the others  . Will try again, its looking better than it was anyways. But I think the finer w/d is gonna solve the problems.
  8. Hey shiuh - give Critter kingodm a call, they said they would drill my tank for $8, - still assembled.
  9. I have a tank that has been shodily put together - the glass isn't cut straight and silicon has been used to make up the discrepancies hahaa its pretty crap looking. I was thinking about having the glass re cut- and making a good job of it, but now I'm thinking that I would rather have a new tank with the same foot print - but much taller. Unfortunately I'm not back to Chch till Jan 21, then off again 1st of Feb. So a bit of a problem with the glass ordering.

    Temperature ?

Does anyone know how good Sacem heaters are? They are from Italy, and look really well built, but has any one tried of these?
  11. I would just ask uni for the water, at Canterbury they make heaps of pure water, I'd imagine they would give it to you. I'm gonna be getting my "NSW" from the uni system - they said it was fine - I can just go get it when I want to.
  12. A RO unit is only the price of 3 more lost anemones, and would give you peace of mind.
  13. Wow thats a good deal!!!
  14. The pic I posted was purely for a aquascaping comparison - I wasnt talking about the corals ect, its just that the guy has gone with something a little more individualised. (imo) That was just a quick example, I'll try to find a real cool one, I like looking through others' tanks.
  15. What about viruses? Are they even a saltwater problem? I know that autophagy in octopuses is brought about by "prions" in the water, but only takes hold when the octopus is under stress. Basically mad octopus disease. I dont know how you'd go about killing prions/viruses in nsw.
  16. I agree with Layton, while its obvioulsy awsome, I'm not a fan of the aquascaping. Purely personal preferance of course! Its kind of a "block". I like the more unusual aquascaped tanks - this ones cool. (purely from an aquascaping perspective)
  17. Nah came back here(Havelock North) about 2 weeks ago.
  18. Just remembered the name - Stix Mill Reserve, it might be worth a shot! So has anyone got a pet eel?
  19. Oh, not in Christchurch anymore- came "home" to Hawkes Bay as the uni year has ended. But as for the eeling, a small stream on my friends orchard. I was amazed by how many eels were there - we put the trap down twice, about 20mins each drop. Had a small stewing steak as bait. My friend took some pics of our expedition so I might be able to post them. As for eeling places in Chch, what about the springs near the airport - just down the road from redwood aquatics?, cant remember what the place is called. I would imagine there are eels there, and the water is so clean you can drink it straight. I had to go there to catch bugs (oddly enough) for an assesment. Its pretty much the only unpolluted waterway on the Canterbury plains.
  20. Went eeling last nite as a matter of fact. Got about 30, it was awsome. Im pretty sure they have teeth, I would imagine it would hurt too - based on seeing them tear away at peices of flesh. The sign on the napier aquarium eel tank says - be careful, we bite. But I dont really know, I think they have quite small teeth - similar to a pirahnas maybe. A pet eel would be cool.
  21. Believe me I know! , I have pondered much on this, its a dilli of a pickle. The annoying thing is they are inquisitive and strong - so its gotta be good. Someone suggested overflow combs to the roof, but now its likely that I will be having a couple of the midget species - and they are very small, = small beaks = probably able to get through a 5c coin size hole. Ill have to use mesh I think. I even have to worry about the return as they can crawl against a very strong current. And apparantly the midgets have a tendency to bite, and if you wear a glove they go for the other hand. Worse than a bee sting!
  22. From what I have (vaguely) read over most crustaceans require full strength sea water - however there are some specialized ones that can go in anything. Are there mangrove crabs here? I would imagine they would be perfect.
  23. Wouldnt a completly seperate emergency pipe be of more use? I dont know much about air/fluid physics but wont air gett sucked in and mix in the redunancy pipe "T" fitting? (dunno if this would be loud or not a problem?) Arrgh I still gota make my durso when I get back - and then I have to make it totally octoproof.
  24. Critter Kingdom if you havent tried already. Edit = Mod: Comment Removed. We need a good independent tank builder down in Chch. There have been quite a few posts asking for one..... any takers? You could have a look on Trademe, thats what I ended up doing.
