  1. yes , buy a UV filter and hook it up to your filter. You only need a 5watt UV and the water will be clear in a week. Make sure you have filter wool in the filter to trap the dead algea. HTH ron
  2. did you do a fishless cycle with pure ammonia. What did you put in the tankin the 6 wks to mature it?
  3. or you can move the fish to your other tank and let this tank cycle that is depending on what fish you have in the other tank.
  4. you probably load up your tank before it is fully cycled. I don't think it's the fault of the filter. It doesn't matter what you put in which tray it should still work. Not a lot you can do now apart from daily waterchange and wait for the tank to cycle. Make sure your PH is below 7 (slightly acidic) ron
  5. What and how many fish have you got in there ? How often and what are you feeding them . What is the reading of the ammonia? ron
  6. Hey Lucca, Congrat on your first spawn. :bounce: Any sign of wigglers yet? If there is you can can save them if the parents are good. PM me if you need any help. Keep us posted and best of luck. ron
  7. Nice fish Luke, He's putting some centerfold on the tank to get the fish excited and hopefully they will spawn LOL Ron
  8. They don't pay out as far as I know. Ring them up awhile ago when there was a power cut letting them know that I have live fishes worth more than $15000.00 and they need power to survive. I was told that they will not be responsible for any death. The insurance don't cover either. Luckily for me none of my discus die after 8 hrs without power. All the canister filter didn't make it
  9. Thanks Glen . They are nice and they are so hard to breed. I have to cull two lots of fry cos' none of them have proper dorsal fins. I just hope the next lot will turn out better. ron
  10. antwan, there'll be a limited amount available in a couple of weeks time. PM me if any of you are interested. Lynda, discus are quite easy to keep. Give it a go. ron
  11. agree with Luke that discus go in groups. Add 6 more in and they'll all come out to play. Ron
  12. Looking better each day. Can't wait to see it when everything is establish and the fish put in. Ronnie
  13. Looking good Luke . Keep pumping them and plenty of waterchange. Keep up the good work. ronnie
  14. you pretty much have to change all the water an hour after feeding or have a couple of sponge filter in the tank to filter all the uneaten york and squeeze it throughly during water change. Too much work IME. Ron
  15. Yes BB tanks are mainly for growing the discus and keeping the water quality at its premium by doing massive water changes. Onces they reaches adults you can put them into your planted show tank. Imagine trying to syphon the gravel on 50 odd tanks daily . lol Hey Luke, how's the melon doing? Cheers, Ron
  16. You can suck them out using airling hose as Alan mention. Net the parents and put them in the new tank. Then put the wigglers in. The parents will start picking up the wigglers in mins. hth Good luck, Ron
  17. hey Wok, try Pak&save, Countdown, Foodtown, New World... They all have them.
  18. Always trying Ben. By the way how is your discus getting on? Got to catch up with you one day. What days are you working ? Ron
  19. Another picture of leopard pair with fry Last one Blue Diamond
  20. more photo to share Leopard with 1 day old free swimmer
  21. Hi , first of all what is the temp of the tank? Discus like to be in the range of 28-30 . A single discus in a tank is too lonely for the poor fish cos discus are schooling fish and so they do better in a group of 6-8. Color bit is a good pellet which the discus will eat. Keep an eye on the flying fox cos' they will annoy the discus by latching on to them. Cardinal, Rummynose, bristalnose, loaches are allright with discus cos' they can handle the higher temp. Personally I would't put Gourami and Platty in with discus. Hope that help and happy fish keeping. Ronnie
  22. you will still have to remove the filter cos when you have frys they will get suck up. If your tank is fully cycled you can remove the filter totally.Just a heater and an airstone turn down low will do. Oh and the cone. Advantage is better chances for the fry to find the parents. Happy discus keeping and may 2006 bring you heaps of discus frys. Don't forget to take some pics. Ronnie
  23. you won't get much success with a hang on back filter cos there is too much water movement.
  24. Congrat on getting a pair. Make sure that there is a male and a female. Quite often 2 female can do the spawning act too. lol. For a start you can put them in a BB tank of their own with a heater and a sponge filter. A 600x450x450 is a good size breeding tank. You can put in a breeding cone if you want or let them spawn on the glass. With a breeding cone all the eggs will be layed in a tidy patch and fertile rate is higher. On the glass the eggs will be layed all over the place and fertile rate is lower. Try to place the tank in an area where there is less foot trafic . The fish will feel more secure and look after the eggs. Try not to disturbed them after they spawn. You don't have to change water after they spawn. Start changing water when you see free swimmers. Start by doing 10% water change daily and slowly increase the %age of waterchange. Feed the pair a very small amount when they are guarding the eggs once a day so that you don't foul the water. HTH and good luck. Ronnie
