  1. would you be prepared to ship the bioballs to Wellington?
  2. so has anyone tried to use the heater pad from a waterbed - would one of them work?
  3. Tim try this site for info on the apple snails www.applesnail.net/ and remember you need to keep the eggs above water and moist, they won't hatch if they dry out and if the eggs fall into the water they will drown. hope they hatch when I had mine they laid several times but I didn't get any to hatch. cheers Karen
  4. and with that advice of Paul's I have managed to breed fry. :bounce:
  5. does the sighting have to be by the clubs breeding co-ordinator or just by any club member. and to how much trouble do you have to go to prove there are ten, ie trying to locate the fry/offspring if in a planted will covered community tank.
  6. I go for the natural look - go to the warehouse and look for already broken pots - can find some unusal "doors" and you can discuss the price depending on how many doors/holes in the pot. sorry have got a pict to put up, but I have siliconed my and then stuck sand over them - means the java moss sticks to it easier and it blends in with the driftwood and gravel
  7. has anybody got/know of a pair of red dwarfs would love to get a pair and try breeding them as well.
  8. what is the flow of your filter - ie litres per hour. could be that the filter can't handle the load now - I would suggest running one a bit bigger than you have and as Ira has suggested placing some filter wool in until it clears. and lots of plants help with removing guppy waste.
  9. thanks Paul you bet me to it.
  10. looks like we in Wainui are taking over - Welcome, next meeting is Wednesday 29 March - love to see you there. cheers Karen
  11. Hi Paul, the reading I have been doing says that when breeding these the agressation doesn't start until after they have been separated and they put back together. but then I haven't breed them so could be wrong..good luck and they look wonderful. cheers Karen
  12. it appears that the secret is getting out about the great wainui water hence all the fishy people moving here. and we in wainui are too busy breeding looking after our fish to set up our own club so we all journey out of our cosy little valley to Tawa each month for our meetings. please feel free to join us at the next meeting.. Day: Last Wednesday of every month. (next one 29 March) Time: 7:45 pm meet with meeting starting at 8:00pm Location: Doris Mills Lounge, Linden Community Centre, Linden Avenue, Linden, Tawa.
  13. other option to removing parents or fry is to have heaps and heaps of places to hide, ie caves and lots of plant cover

    Hi everyone

Hi fingol the Kapi Mana Fish Club Day meets the Last Wednesday of every month. Means the next meeting is 29 March Time: 7:45 pm meet with meeting starting at 8:00pm Location: Doris Mills Lounge, Linden Community Centre, Linden Avenue, Linden, Tawa. more than welcome to come along and meet us all - then you would be able to find out who is breeding guppies in this area - there are quite a few of us that have some. cheers Karen
  18. This morning I was finally able to transfer my fish back into the tank that leaked as hubby has finished building the stand for the tank to sit on. I had hoped they wouldn't breed till the new setup was installed BUT they didn't listen to my thoughts. didn't count them all - and I pray that I found them all - but there it looks like around two dozen - they are soooooo cute. lets hope they all like there new home, will lots of places to hide - pots and driftwood, probably won't see them again for a while. :bounce:
  19. also are you sure that she hasn't dropped at all - what other fish are in the tank, any plants at all. some fish will eat baby guppies and if it is well planted the fry will hide in the plants.
  20. will done Kookie - nice looking set up and the fish are happy - thats always a good sign that there needs are met.
  21. nope no losses. am happy about that. - have my tank back fixed and rebuilt looks better than before - but haven't transferred the fishies back yet as hubby is building me a stand out of rimu to match the lighthood that he built. - he has welded the steel together is now just sorting the rest - have been hasseling him to get a move on as would like to set it up again this weekend - won't count on it though - he is a perfectionist when it comes to building things. and as it is my tank not his - hes not in such a hurry. I suppose he also knows that once my tank is sorted he will have to start sorting out a stand for tank number three. but when I tell him tonight that I have got him another two cichlids for his tank and when they grow he will need the bigger tank - that might get him moving
  22. amother thought is that the male betta will also consider the male guppies as a threat to him and will nip them - as if they where another male betta. I would suggest that you either go with the bettas OR the guppies not both.
  23. wonderful, owe to have a tank like that - makes my plants look like sticks
  24. will at least two rooms I would image, one for the breeding set up and one for all the display tanks, but I will leave the final design up to you.
