The reading I have done about this plant says "A difficult plant demanding a lot of light. Grows upwards if light is poor". is this true?? cause I certainly like the effect it gives. and if you have some to spare Shae I would be interested. -

Hi Kookie if you looking for a good source of plants - try John Peters aka waterplantz on trade me - his prices are really good and the plants are fantastic, - if you want to see what his plants have done for our tanks give me a call. -
she is a beautiful fish, but there protective nature has put me off getting some.

send a pm to Paul Billaney - he should be able to answer any questions you have as he has been successful with rasing fighters

We got in contact with him, as we thought they looked good too, but he wanted a $150 for him to bring to Wellington in his own van. We had several email and phone conversations with him and had a different answer everytime. (in relation to transport cost and mupilte tank discount). so in answer to your question I don't know about the quality of the tank, but I say buyer beware of the person selling.

Sorry I missed you Wednesday night Kookie, waited on this site till 7pm just in case. we started off with an upright tank and I told hubby, I couldn't look after a tank that I couldn't reach the bottom, so I got another and he took over that one, will in the last month he agreed with me its a shit to clean so he started investigating tanks, we now have another three that we are looking at ways to set up. AND HE SWORE THAT WE WOULDN'T GT ANYMORE TANKS so please beware as you have discovered this site and these people you are probably already infected and it will only be a matter of time before you will get more tanks. as for the meeting it was great, I joined up and will be going back next time if you want to join in, last Wednesday of the month starts 7.45-8pm in Tawa.

don't blink too many times then, or you will lose count. so then you need to decide how many your main tank can handle and raise them a bit so the serpae and whoever doesn't have a snack and use the rest for live food. could always start a competiton for the kids to see who can count the right number.. cheers Karen

Hi again Kookie, I'm home alot of the time and always welcome people for a coffee and a chat if you want to pop round. as for looking at Tsarmina tank(s) she has already claimed 5 fishies from me and getting some more afternoon. but yes seeing what see has done could be interesting. meeting tonight in Tawa - will be my first visit and will have spare seats in the car if you would like to tag along. am in Konini Street. cheers Karen

thats what I thought, but has the filter got the right media in it, and do I just plug it in and put the inlet and outlet into the tank - oh and one more question do I leave the existing filter running?? cheers Karen
-
we brought a new tank which came with a filter and as we haven't run an external filter before and no instructions came with it we need to know how to set it up and get it running. it is a Via Aqua Professional 300 model number N2867external filter. looking inside it has three filter areas, top has blue foam, then middle has white filter wool, bottom has bio spheres. it will be running a tank 92cm length, 38cm width, 37cm height. about 120 litres. this will be our new cichlid tank, we currently have them in another tank and will be transfering them across once this one has been cleaned. can I set this filter up on the old tank to aid in cycling, when doing the transfer we will be putting the water in from the old tank. So how long will I need to cycle etc or can I just transfer across?? any and all help appreciated. thanks in advance Karen

theres heaps of us in Wainui - maybe we should be looking at starting a fish club here instead of traveling to tawa - not that I have anything against tawa and I know I;m yet to attend a meeting. but Welcome Kookie

thanks for that guys, think I will thin the guppies down, keep the males and move the females and babies and then when Pauls barbs are ready get some of those to add some spice. and thanks for that website - sure are some interesting tanks on there.
-
my new tank has been set up for guppies and they are breeding like mad - thought having all the guppies in one tank whre I could see them and look after them would make me happy. But I have made them too happy and they are breeding faster than they did in the old tank which my hubby has taken over and is starting to collect cichlids. MY PROBLEM is that I have now lost the interest that once attracted me to the guppies, suppose this happened when I saw the cichlids - not sure - but would like to change from guppies BUT TO WHAT, hubby says it has to be something different to what he has. tank is 30inches long by 18inches wide and 18 inches high - 130 litres. am running an undergravel filter plus an enheim internal filter, has lots of plants and a piece of driftwood for my bristlenose. SO CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT YOU WOULD PUT IN THERE - NOTE - I DO LIKE HAVING A PLANTED TANK. thanking you in advance Karen

thanks Dubbie, no the problem was my hubby took a liking to Apple snails and they loved the riccia, thought it was a lovely treat. so I have set up another tank solely for my guppies and left HIS snails in the other tank, so lighting isn't/wasn't the problem. now how did we do it last time, can't remember, do you want me to send you an envelope with the postage attached or do you want to give me your bank account number and will I can deposit the postage into your account? thanks so much
-
hi guys have just set up a new tank and would love to get some riccia for my guppy fry to hide in. am happy to pay postage or other costs involved.
-
Paul, any babies that you want to get rid of - from this strain or any of your strains would be happy to discuss prices with you. cheers
-
thanks Caryl thats a great site, very informative, and we discovered the type we have, and it explains why they where eating some vegetation and not others. and Alan it was there eggs - laid above water and orange in colour. cheers
-
my hubby liked the look of the apple snail so we purchased a large one, and brought it home, then for some unexplained reason he went and got another two - smaller in size - all a bright orange. now I have two questions - I know they are plant eaters and have put in lettuce occassionally for them - but is there any food designed for them that I can get to stop them eating there way through my plants. second is we have/had some eggs - if they are eggs from the snails - how long will it take for them to hatch. any other info on these things you wish to impart would be helpful. cheers

ok so now from a novice point of view I am totally confused. water changes are essential, and often - or so I have read. and I thought the water had to be aged. now you are all stating that you take water straight out of the tap when doing the changes - so its aged by what 60 seconds. so please clarify how often water changes and how often is the gravel needing to be vacummed - and the most important does the water have to be aged. my tank is a metre tall by 450mm square. fish are guppies, platies and tertras with apple snails.
