snookie
wanted ideas for building a cheap 6 foot stand, was thinking blocks of some description, plywood , and needs to be just enough height for an fx5
SamH
Would a cinder block stand be strong enough?
F15hguy
seen a cinder block stand for a 12 foot tank wrapped in corrugated iron, looked stunning, just make sure to use as many cinder blocks as you can afford (don't be cheap)
snookie
can the cinder blocks be spaced or do you need to make a wall ?, i was thinking 4 or 5 rows spaced , ply poly top ?

F15hguy
the one I saw had blocks stacked about 70cm apart, with a 25mm ply top and iron around it
David R
If you're using cinder blocks I'd suggest making a frame out of 4x2 frame for it to sit on so it is supported along the length. That or just a regular 4x2 stand would be pretty cheap (but not pretty), copy the design of the stand for that 3' tank of mine you have, just add an axtra pair of legs in the centre. F15hguy
wrap the whole stand in corrugated iron doesn't matter about looks then.
David R
Or cover it with an old sheet. If you weren't worried about doors etc you could easily make a box using the 2440x600 MDF panels, can't remember what they cost but not having to do any long cuts makes them easy to use, in fact you might be able to get them 1800 long for your tank (or is it 6', not 180cm?). camtang
I scored a heap of MDF for free from a supermarket for building frames around my stands. that would fall into the cheap catagory if you are willing to do some leg work
smidey
here's the thread of my 2.0m stand, if you do it this way you can also cover it with panels and make it look tidy for relatively cheap. viewtopic.php?f=28&t=48784&hilit=+2.0m+stand
snookie
building is not in my DNA
F15hguy
go into a proper store and they will even cut it and mitre it for you, all you have to do is screw it together. its kinda like flatpack for men
SamH
The easiest thing would be to source some cinder blocks then go into Mitre10 Mega or Bunnings and ask the guy running the saw if he could help you out. I think it's $1 per cut, just have all the dimensions and quantities with you. Then all you have to do is assemble it all when you get home. David R
building is not in my DNA  Could give you a hand one weekend if you want. If you get the timber cut to size its just a matter of gluing and screwing it together.
