Godly3vil
:slfg: Sam I was just thinking that while I was watching the video. Nice fish and tank Sophia, the twigs look real good, you should think about getting a pair of the smaller Apistogramma species like trifasciata, they would look great in there! F15hguy
very cool tank and they are awesome lil guys. pity the colours are impossible to show on film
Sophia
I was going to get 2 licorice gourami but I thought that if the rasbora breed then the eggs will get eaten. It would be so cool to have fry from these minifish. I have a supply of rainwater that they will get on their first water change next week so here's hoping. The end of the video where they are playing in the current is what some of them seem to do all day. There are usually a few relaxing elsewhere or picking about in the back leafy corner. The first 2 thirds of the video was taken after the lights had been off so they weren't very active. The tank also came out looking much bluer than it normally does so I will try to get some more photos to show their colours.
Li@m
Get The Gouramis! You can always put the in your other tank.

Sophia
My piece of oak twig is starting to get that white wispy fungus on bits of bare wood or, I presume, where there is sap coming out. Has anyone waited this out to see what happens? Last time I gave up and got rid of the wood but I really like this one, I don't want to give up! I wonder if I could put a single drop or 2 of meth blue in the water to slow it down a bit? Not enough to dye anything... ???
Li@m
It's just a part of the natural process, if you don't like the stuff you can just siphon the stuff off. It's also completely harmless.
Sophia
I know but will it go away eventually?

Sophia
Some crypts are dying off a bit because of the rearrangement but I am sure they will spring back soon enough.
phoenix44
My crypts have taken over my tank! :dunno: I don't get how they melt with you! I like this layout.
Sophia
Crypts are good in this tank, they grow and don't melt, except when I move them but I expect that. Now they are getting fertilised too. When we put the oak twig in the tank it looked so much better, like it had been missing something all along. It seems to bring a layer of depth that wasn't there before even the previous layout was also good.
Sophia
Video update... got some that show the orangeness of the little fish. Reflection always bad in this position but you get the idea. The plants are really doing well now. The crypts and java ferns are nice and green and the moss is slowly growing. The bits of fungus that started on the wood disappeared without getting any bigger than a fingernail blob. The brown algae has disappeared since I covered the window side, now I have 2 strand of hair algae starting on the moss but I am happy to put up with it as it's much more preferable than the brown slime. The funny thing with this tank is that since I started using rain water, the little ramshorn snails have started taking off again. I find a group of them floating on the top in the eddy caused by the filter in among the bubbles in what I call the Snaily-go-round. Unfortunately for the snails this makes them very easy to catch, so I net them out and feed them to the loaches.

Sophia
indeed in lieu of a photo I took a short clip of them darting about. As usual the newcomers are preoccupied with playing in the current, in a couple of weeks it will be less exciting for them, as the rasboras are now not so energetic.
