F15hguy
hrmmmm C11H24 from CO2 and H2O. makes sense... releases Oxygen at rather alarming rates though. and I'd love to see how they do it without using excess energy or large amounts of catalyst. alanmin4304
I wonder how many times more energy is required to make the petrol than can be released from it.
F15hguy
well they are currently using electricity from the powergrid.... im assuming LOTS They would probably need a massive hydro power station to supply one gas station.
alanmin4304
It is a bit like using copper solar panels to save electricity. It doesn't take in to account the energy used in Zimbabwe or wherever to mine and process the copper etc. They don't count--they are on the other side of the world. amtiskaw
I did some more reading on this. Apparently it is legit, and the plan is to use renewable energy sources (solar, hydro) to supply energy for the process. Pretty cool if it is commercially viable 8)
alanmin4304
I hope they do get it right. Takes a lot of energy to get hydrogen from water without making petrol, but good luck if they can.
hovmoller
Iceland have been making hydrogen from water using electricity produced from windmills and geothermal stations for quite a while now. I mean actually having a network of hydrogen stations where one can "gas up" the car :slfg:
Jaide
They don't count--they are on the other side of the world. That reminds me of a Smith and Jones skit where they're reporting on international news, much of it was "very far away so it doesn't really matter" :slfg:
