Sheepsnana
:smot: Sorry. I keep fish as a hobby, I fix computers as a hobby. I would hate to have to worry about what fish I need to order because they sell better than the ones I love. I would hate to have to worry about guarantees on everything I fix or actually charging people for the help they get.
Sophia
Minor updates Plotting rock placements Starting plants off getting attached to rocks this is the photo I am using as a rough guide - rocks in the middle that have a loach tunnel through, planting around the back and in between if I can. May or may not use wood, depending what room there is after the rock pile.
SamH
Island style, I like it 8) Are you going to have a foreground plant for the front and sides or just leave it bare sand?
Flosty
Nice one! Awesome stand Thats a great tank to be modelling off of, and very achievable too best of luck with it
Sophia
thanks there will be some bare substrate space around the front and edges but I'll probably put some rocks through it for interest
Li@m
Card board does work a lot easier than Tape on the carpet.
Sophia
not when you don't have cardboard :-? So the tank layout is now mostly completed. Need a few more plants and to decide final layout of the planting around the edges. I think it's pretty good, and the loaches should enjoy it. You will have to wait for more photos as I have to wait for night time as there is a lot of reflection on the glass when it's daylight. Sophia
borrowed Sam's idea and stole his favourite stockings to make a couple of sandbags to prop the rocks up higher Progress so far. The rocks will stay where they are now, plants, extra sand and final details to be finished this week or next weekend. Bought some JBL balls and some flourish comp so I can encourage growth in this sunny spot. The 3 rocks on the left side are stuck together with the silicone, the rest are fitting together in such a way as a loach wouldn't move them, even with digging. Digging won't really be possible as they are all on the sandbags anyway. There are multiple entries and exits from the tunnel and if the christmas moss sticks to the stone on the left, they will have a mossy curtain to peek out from. Li@m
Hmmm.. Not really island style. Might want to replant those twisted vals. Also maybe put the swords behind the rocks in the middle which will save you from doing it in the near future. Lookin Good :spop:
Li@m
Heres a quick paint job Add moss where the lime green is.
SamH
borrowed Sam's idea and stole his favourite stockings to make a couple of sandbags to prop the rocks up I'm glad someone pays attention to my thread  I can see potential here! That initial dusty water always gives me the shivers, hope it clears soon!
Sophia
@ Sam - water is clear today 8) @ Liam - none of the plants are planted yet, they are just sitting there till I have everything, then plant-o-rama begins. I do want to have the bulk of stuff up and around the top and back like you suggested. Now I can't wait to finish and put the loachies in there :bounce:
SamH
none of the plants are planted yet, they are just sitting there till I have everything, then plant-o-rama begins. So you put water in it? I was the OPPOSITE and waited till I had the plants before filling it, each to their own though
Sophia
I've had it empty with water in it for about 2 or 3 weeks trying to be good and getting some cycling done in advance. I took 5 litres out prior to adding the rocks and gravel in, and they displaced exactly that much volume back again.

Sophia
Layout now completed and the first occupants have moved in - 3 corydora loxozonus and 1 peppered cory. Total water capacity is 56 litres. Will give the corydora time to get used to it alone, then will add the dwarf chain loaches from my other tank tomorrow. Sophia
Corner shot Spot Peppy the peppered cory hiding under the anbuias. His colouring is very dark, he blends in very well. Full tank shot Tank corner Plants – anubias nana (nana and petite?), bolbitis, java fern, narrow leaf java fern, dwarf sagittaria, Christmas moss. I consider the moss and the bolbitis an experiment. Moss typically hasn’t done well in my lighting conditions and when I’ve attached it to wood but this tank is well lit from daylight for a lot of the day, and I’ve had success attaching plants to stone lately. Bolbitis wouldn’t live when I had it in the tank next door but then no java fern did very well until I put a 6500k bulb in with the 14000 one. If the bolbitis dies my plan is for more java fern of various kinds.
