petplanet
Presonally I think it is wrong to put tropical fish in coldwater but I have heaps of customers who have and who buy them from other stores who have them in coldwater tanks. Just buy a damn heater!!! What I want to know is, what are the fish generally considered suitable for putting in a coldwater tank?
Caryl
Define 'cold'. If you mean average room temperature then quite a few manage in a modern, well insulated home. By 'cold' I refer to around 18C. guppies white clouds of course leopardfish (also coldwater anyway) golden barbs rosy barbs for a start. Wok
Port Hoplo's will also do well in cooler water. I have 2 in with my orandas and they grow really fast.

KM
Paradise Fish and american flags also do well in colder tanks! Both can be a little nippy though, especially the flags. Both fish are quite lovely though. I have seen Paradise Fish in outdoor ponds too, and they seem to do very well.
killifan
will the fish mentioned in thre posts above cope with outside pond on spouth wall where water is often around 10 degrees over winter/early summer
Caryl
Barbs would. So would white clouds, paradisefish, and leopardfish. I wouldn't put mollies in cooler water as they are very prone to white spot.
livebearer_breeder
Mollies would be fine in cooler water aslong as it was salted. Shae
Ira
If you're talking 18° then pearl gouramis definitely. Most cichlids should handle it ok too as long as you don't shock them.

mistymu05
in regards to the fighters = the colder the water teh less movement u get from them - they really dont like the water too cold, sure it seems to prolong their lives if in colder water but thats only cos they dont do alot of anything - they go into a type of hybernation
