The What's Up? thread.

It's not isolated to just the imports, the neons and local platies do the same thing too. The fish that have died were fine and fit only hours before dying, I can't see any condition that's changed to make them behave like that. It's just a mystery to me :-?

We have had instances in our club where if the imports are mixed with the local guppies that approximately 50% of the fish in the tank died, the fish would clamp and would not survive when treated with salt or Furan.

Interestingly the following deaths were recorded that seem contrary to yours, but nonetheless

NZ female guppies survived

NZ male guppies all died

Imported female guppies all died

Imported male guppies survived

Other fish such as loaches and harlequin rasbora were not affected.

Mortalities all look normal, no whitespot, fin rot, dropsy, etc. I'm thinking water conditions are fine due to the fish not all become sick at the same time but I'll try find my test kit tomorrow.

That's a weird one Zev! Mad guppy disease? :o

It is a hive of activity at my place today. The heat pump man is drilling through the computer room wall. The Solartube men have drilled through the ceiling and the double glazing guys have removed the big lounge window ready to fit the new replacement doors. Hopefully. All were done except this one as they got the angle measurements wrong last time and we have had 2 weeks of draughts while they built another set.

I saw a lone Brevibora cheeya in the local shop today :) It was in amongst its more common and smaller relative, B. dorsiocellata.

It would have been an accidental import because it isn't on the allowed list.

I found this photo on SeriouslyFish.com that shows the difference between the two species :D

Rasbora-macrophthalma-and-dorsiocellata.jpg

B. cheeya on left, B. dorsiocellata on right. As you can see B. cheeya basically looks like a much larger version of B. dorsiocellata, just like the fish that I saw. And the marking below the black spot on the dorsal fin is more yellow than white.

We have building consents in at the local council for our garage extension. We had planned to build it (with fire wall) on the back boundary as there is only a council reserve behind us so we did not think we would have a problem.

Council has just informed our builder that they want $900 to ask themselves if they will give us permission to build on the boundary so we have told then we have changed our mind and will move the back wall forward 700mm so consent is not required.

Having a bigger garage does not mean that anymore cars are going to reside in said garage, does it?

Also, a question for cat owners - when a cat sits in front of a fireplace does it become the feline equivalent of a black hole that absorbs all the heat that is generated by the fire? Because my feet are still cold!

Yep, they absorb heat like there isn't any being produced.

I feel bleh today so I am at home doing nothing and it is quite pleasent. Shortly I shall go and consume the leftover curry from last night !drool:

Perhaps it is the curry from last night that is making you feel bleh in the first place :)

Mind you... when I start getting the sniffles, I make myself a good hot vindaloo... blast the germs away... works well! :rotf:
