Stephanie
Oops that was me above, wrong account. Just watched the video, didn't expect it to be that scary looking. I don't like all this stuff happening at all. :nilly: Might be time to actually put together an emergency kit actually.
Josh_S
Getting home was crazy, all the lights are out and emergency vehicles everywhere. Apparently there was a tornado by the harbor bridge just after i went over it. Powers out in a lot of areas. Thankfully we still have it here. Li@m
Sorry to say but, Officially One Person has died as a result of this Tornado
Sunbird73
One person dead apparently, and others injured Was just at Pak n save earlier today. Small tornados are fairly common in auckland, but don't usually hit populated malls so don't often make the news as its usually roofs and fences down. We had one go through my mums place a few years ago, trashed everything in a 1.5m wide path, went past my sleeping baby's window with about a metre to spare. Scary stuff. Hope all the north shore fish people are safe.
BikBok
the ambulance services have confirmed TWO dead http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/tornado-in-auckland-suburb-4152830 what time was the actual tornado? I'm in Manukau but this afternoon there was a huge racket of birds flying overhead in circles like they didn't know where to go.

Sunbird73
Think it was right on 3pm, or a couple minutes after. Very very freaky.
Fruju
Wow, literally a 2 minute drive from me. They exaggerated the conditions in the city, it was pretty calm, also the traffic level. Haven't visited Albany yet, but I will stay away I think :cofn: Both henward and myself live pretty close to this, kinda weird having it on the backdoor. phoenix44
I used to live off Roseberry ave! About to call friends now to see what the damage is like.
Sunbird73
Just checked the map of the tornado path, and apparently it passed about 200m from our house Tho am skeptical of their mapping skills, I didn't hear anything thru the pouring rain. Feels totally surreal. Went to the supermarket today.... freaky to think there is a big hole in the roof now.
Caryl
They say the 2 dead was incorrect and it is still only 1. I was surprised it hit a mall, they are usually attracted to caravan parks it seems to me
Adrienne
Ah yes but it did get the boat yard! Pretty freaky. I managed to get hold of my daughter who has just got her restricted licence and tell her to get off the motorway in time as she was heading over the bridge to visit her boyfriend on the north shore. For once she actually listened to me. Fortunately there was one exit left before she was committed to the bridge and the traffic jam. Joshlikesfish
Tornado was just after 3pm apparently. What is it with these things and happening right after kids get out of school :-?
Adrienne
Kristin, Rangitoto etc had extra school time today as they didn't let them out until after 3.30pm from what I've been told.
Joshlikesfish
That's good. Our bells at school screwed up today and it got me thinking about what would happen if a fire broke out at 3.15pm when we all leave.
Aquila
Good thing your daughter answered her phone while driving! Appears cell phones can save lives after all Ah yes but it did get the boat yard!
