Artem
Java moss wont anchor onto glass. You need to get some plastic mesh or something similar for it to anchor on to. This is a pretty good article about how to do it

Fishie123
:slfg: Nah, I don't really fancy goldfish that much TBH. Nor do I have the money for a VIP red. Tank nearly setup. I have 3 Jager 300w heating plus 2 50w random heating. All set to 31 degrees. But my tank temp is always on 24.8-25.1. :dunno: I might get some poly and put it around the tank. Mirio
Poly wouldn't be a bad idea, would do a superb job!
GZ_Loach
I have two 300w jager heaters on my 1100L tank and they are set to 27 degrees (tank sits at 26 degrees 24/7)
David R
I have two 300w Jagers in my 1400L and it will hold it at 27C no problem. How big and how well insulated is the garage the tank is in (if at all)?
henward
i dont believe his garage is insulated. just the garage under the house, foundations, concrete, thats the problem i believe. the only way to do it is to line the tank as lining the garage would be difficult, though i would do it, but will cost a bit to line with poly. in saying that, i lined my garage with poly costing 400 dollars, the power it saves me was returned in less than 4 months. power bill went down fast, temperature held better. Poly on glass is my suggestion.

If you give me this: Dims of the tank. What you want your tank temp to be. The coldest your room will get. Then I'll calculate some options for heater/poly requirements for you. Fishie123
tank dimensions are 220x75x75cm room temp is 17 degrees with the garage door open at the moment sp will probably rise with the door closed we want the tank temp is
henward
re measure your garage, its concrete with no insulation what so ever, its as good as what is in the ambient temp of outside temp. so basically, what ever it is outside, your garage will be the same, i had a garage with no insulation at all, and was identical temp as outside. (give or take 1 to 3 c) what you have to calculate is the difference wtih outside temp and the temp you want for your water..... your tank will be losing heat into the garage, so your garage will naturally warm up slightly but ... it will be sucking the hell out of heat from your tank. hovmoller
tank dimensions are 220x75x75cm room temp is 17 degrees with the garage door open at the moment sp will probably rise with the door closed we want the tank temp is 29 If room is 17° and you want your water at 29° then you need at least 575 watt heating. This is assuming no insulation except 10mm on the bottom and on ply. This will cost you $105/month in power!! In addition if you put 25mm poly on the back and sides then you would then need 340 watt heating to sustain that temperature and it would cost you $62/month. Oh and if you leave the garage door open you can forget about these numbers.. it will be much higher then.. These calcs are based on a room with little air movement.
