Fruju
Lost another delhezi, my large male! What the hell! Symptoms: Lost a bit of balance, green poop, lethargic. Food: hikari pellets, prawn cut up, occaisional beef heart (added lettuce and cucumber for FT, but sure it didn't eat it). Water: Condtions fine. Temp: reading 33C today!! Is this it? Dont know of any parasites? Worms? Why is this happening?
A-town...
could possibly be temp. what are the water parameters exactly ph ammonia nitrite nitrate? you dont happen to add salt to your tank either?
Fruju
It's the temp Im sure of it :-? had to drop it down, fish started acting a bit more regular now. Parameters are ok, fish died too fast for addition of salt.
Fruju
Oh my god, I have lost my last delhezi... I think what happened was the temperature spike created a bacterial infection inside the fish. Worst month in my fishkeeping history. phoenix44
:tears: That's awful man! Maybe you guys with tanks overheating should get a wavemaker and point it along the surface of the water creating ripples all along the top? phoenix44
Well I have a tank without a lid or any thing and I run a pump / powerhead causing a lot of ripples on the surface and the tank stays really cool. Kinda like running a fan on the top, but this way you move the water because it's pretty unlikely for the air to stay 100% stagnant.
livingart
there can be many factors that contribute to the overheating can't necessarily blame the deaths on overheating

The lack of lid could be having various other effects - heat rises, some cooling through evaporation, not trapping heat from the light etc. I doubt that water circulation on its own would have much effect, but it is useful for other effects - increases effect of evaporative cooling using fans, reduces thermal layering, increases oxygenation/reduces stagnation. A.PROPHECY
extra power head would just make more heat wouldnt it? just a fan blowing over the surface does the the trick bro, thats what i did over summer with that tank
