I can't help regarding the wood piggy, but I am definatly keen to try this. If i can source a decent tank for not much money, I will attempt it. I have a t8 light hood, and 2 clip on 6500k light bulbs, just need a hob filter or something like that. And the wood of course.

Go to the beach. Heaps of wood to be found there.

Anyone in the areas of NZ who have had recent flooding should be able to find wood along their beaches in the next month or so. Pine is fine if it is totally dried. It just rots faster than native Hardwoods do.

Lets have a Xmas moss tree competition.

If they are dried I do not think you have to boil it, but it may help make it sink.

Phoenix44 put some 'nice red' branches in his tank once that were fresh off a tree, if I recall correctly they went furry and he took them out not long afterwards.

If you are going gorse hunting, it may pay to ask permission from the land owner first and ascertain that they have not been sprayed with herbicide or anything else that may not be too good for your tank.

And I forgot to say previously - you are not going to kill that poor little native bush are you? :o
