Sophia
these photos aren't good enough for the photos thread but I thought you might like the feathers on this pigeon that stopped by today. This one doesn't visit often. Any seed left for me?
Joe
Haha he's cool I wish I still had my Suabian Starling (a fancy pigeon breed). He had white wings with a black lace pattern on them :happy1: He just disappeared and never came back one day :tears: And I had had him for months and months. I hope he one day decides to show up (which is highly unlikely though, because they don't have a distance homing instinct).
Sophia
how do you tell girl and boy pigeons apart? this one was very polite, I thought it must have been a female
Sophia
just hijacking your thread momentarily for a wild floofie picture or 2 - how's this for a cutie little beak? that top one was taken on such a big zoom that it looks like I painted it
Joe
Yay it's so floofie :happy1: Umm I'm not sure how you sex male and female pigeons. They just act differently (the males tend to be more aggressive and chase the females around). I have a pigeon that used to be a 'male' until it laid eggs and successfully raised a couple of squabs. Caryl
I should have made the connection as well as I too, have them on my monitor. Plus I have these... Can you sex them Joe? Are you going to keep your floofie fry?

Caryl
Perhaps they are more common in the North Island? I don't remember seeing them anywhere :dunno:
Joe
I know a couple of people in Blenheim that have Gouldians, one that breeds heaps of them! They are very common. They're quite cheap too - about $100 a pair, $70 a pair minimum.
Caryl
I must be honest and say I haven't looked but I am sure if I saw one in a pet shop I would notice it!!! :-?
Joe
They need to be kept at about 25 degrees and require other special care, so that's why they aren't stocked in petshops. They can be purchased off breeders.

the-obstacle
and what man does to them This is why I don't get the albino fish craze - they're freaks! the originals are so much cooler. My cockatiel was $30 instead of the $100 they were charging for the others at the breeders because he was the only one that was a natural patterning and people wanted the whitefaces or lutinos instead.
