the-obstacle
I have an outbreak of ich and the lfs said to use wunder tonic to treat it. I now note the wunder tonic may damage plants and may stain silicone. I've got a fairly heavily planted tank that needs treating and I really don't want to stain the silicone. 1) Will it definitely stain the silicone? 2) Will it definitely harm the plants? Has anybody used wunder tonic in the same situation and not had the staining/plant damage?
phoenix44
The reduced light intensity will possibly kills of some plants. I know more delicate stem plants don't do too well with it.
Joshlikesfish
The ambulia will be fine, I can tell you that much
hovmoller
1. Yes it did stain my silicone to a light blue colour 2. It also stained my java moss to a dark green/blue colour but it survived and grew new green bits Don't know about other plants
the-obstacle
OK, thanks. Should I go back for a different white spot treatment or just harden the **** up? Is there anything different / better to use that doesn't do this?
dreams
Maybe try a UV? Im not sure if that will work though...otherwise I'd move the fish to another tank then treat. Also up your temps if you can
Joshlikesfish
Take the plants out. Soak them in a bucket with 1cap of bleach in it for 5 mins. This will kill the whitespot on the plants. Rinse them all with bleach free tank water(Not in the tank though!!!) Put them in another tank and then treat your tank. Wont help the silicone though :-? Can somebody vouch me on the bleach before he does it? hahaa
the-obstacle
Hmmm, no other white spot treatment that doesn't stain? Maybe I should buy Henwards 3 footer and transfer the fish and filter there and treat it without the plants getting damaged. Give the existing tank 10+ days for the spores to die off at a higher temp with no hosts (must make sure the shrimp are out of there before I crank the heat). I've just sold this as a great idea to the wife. Also waiting for Henward to reply to my PM. Just saying...
Caryl
I upped the temp and added a UV. It worked.
pink_fish
If you buy straight out 'White Spot Cure' and use that, it doesn't stain anything, and since the water doesn't darken, the plants don't get affected either.

Awesome - I wondered if there was such an item. I'm off to HFF today then.
Mel
You could also just increase the temp slowly to at least 28 and add salt
alanmin4304
Wunder tonic contains malachite green, quinine, methylene blue and acriflvine, all of which will cure white spot on their own but only methylene blue stains the silicone. I have used them all individually and combined without damage to plants if you use the correct dose.
Brackishtank lover
I'v added tonic before with plants
the-obstacle
Thanks all - I've added wunder white spot treatment and all is well.
Sunbird73
You could also just increase the temp slowly to at least 28 and add salt This worked for me
the-obstacle
This worked for me I didn't want to kill the shrimp I have left in there. Wunder white spot treatment should hopefully do the trick. I noticed 2 of my panda's 'flashing' tonight which isn't a good sign but it's only been 4 days with the treatment so it'll be another week before I know if I've eradicated it.
