js
Hi there Just wondering what people use to clean the glass on their tanks? My water always looks crystal clear but my glass is slowly getting covered in very hard to remove green algae. I have always used a microfibre cloth which is great, but I notice now it's not quite strong enough to get it all off. Have tried a magnetic cleaner, but this didn't do anything more than my cloth and I am scared it will scratch the glass. I have checked previous posts, which say to use vinegar and baking soda, but that would be for an empty tank. What do you use for a tank which is up and running? bdspider
An old credit/eftpos/gift card works great.

Caryl
It does seem the most popular method that works best
douwe
I use steel wool works very good just make sure you use "Extra fine #000" or "Super fine #0000" Don't let it lying around because it will rust
ryanjury
Yeah I am a fan of the eftpos/credit cards too It is quite funny the number of people that comment on the credit cards lying around my fishroom and try and give them to me thinking someone might steal them lol. Filter wool seems to go well too

acara
The best method I've used is just a wee bit of white filter wool cut from a larger piece.
Stella
I used to use EFTPOS cards till it turned out I was simply selectively breeding the algae to be lower-growing and hang on tighter to the glass (I am serious!). Now I use razor blades - the type with the metal over one end so you don't slice yourself. I used to use cloth, filter wool etc, but it just picks up grit and scratches the hell out of the tank. A bath mitt is great on the rocks. It holds on to YOU and you can scrub all the places you can reach with your fingers.

Sophia
here's a picture of my makeshift scraper I couldn't find a razor blade with a safe side so I stuck a double against a piece of metal and masking taped it to the end of a useless other kind of scraper I bought. very rudimentary  but it worked and I was exceedingly gentle as I'm paranoid about scratching the glass
Stella
CUNNING!!! I think I have one of those sticks, I might give it a go. Save freezing my arm off in the cold water
Sophia
I did that to stop me getting covered in floating plant I tried it on a vertical stick but you don't get a good enough angle on the razor
Ira
I use a bit of water and a paper towel, or some glass cleaner. You mean for the inside of the tank? I haven't cleaned the inside of the glass in my tanks in years.
LYNDYLOO
I use a Non Scratch Kitchen scouring sponge thingy, the kind that you attach to a handle that you fill with Dishwashing Liquid, I just use it without the Handle, works great, also use a toothbrush for the hard to reach places. Razor Blade is great for the stubborn bits of algae that wont come off with the Scouring Sponge.
