firefish
I've had my Apistogramma eunotus for just over a month now & today while cleaning out the tank I noticed some fry I hadn't even thought about them breeding at this stage (the female is half the size of the male) I've now got 10 in a breeding net as they seemed old enough that the parents weren't guarding them. The parents must know how many I need to get the breeding registered  Sorry about the picture quality They're about 7-8mm long. Any idea on how old they might be? And any advice would be good. I've never raised cichlids before.
Ras
Nice one. Sorry can't help with advice still learning myself.
firefish
Trying to get them to eat atm. I've got decap, but they don't seem to realise its food. Their mouths are so tiny! All 10 are still alive this morning. Could they be over the most sensitive stage?
antwan
I would say maybe around 2 weeks free swimming? Have you got any microworms or live baby brine shrimp that you could use to feed? They're probably on the lookout for live food. Sure is awesome finding fry that you never knew were there!
alanmin4304
It is hard to beat live brine shrimp nuplii as fry food.
firefish
I don't have any live food. Tried frozen daphnia today but no luck (squirted it in so it should have looked like it was alive) I've never done live food before - what would be the easiest to start with? Jennifer
Microworms and brine shrimp. If you can find someone in the area with a microworm culture, they will be a quick feed until the brineshrimp hatch. BTW, very cool on the fry! rob1066
Well done I feed mine fine flake food the same as the parents If they are 2weeks old they would have been feeding on whatever is in the tank I found that they fend for them selves with their parents help None of my fry get anything other than what the adults get Cheers Rob

I will be putting my Eunotus together in the next week or so. I already have tanks full of fry. Apisto. steelblues, L. curviceps, Blue Acaras, various rainbows and WCMMs. Nothing beats live food for fry IMO.
firefish
Thought it was time for an update. The fry are in my 20 litre hex tank. So I can't count whether they're all still there. I've got some microworms and brine shrimp (they're easier to hatch than i thought they'd be) Can see the blue starting to come out on the cheek

firefish
Last night I moved their tank into a different room & took the oppourtunity to cout up the fry. I've still got 11 (I found one that I'd left with their parents) They're starting to develop adult patterns (the same stripe below the eye as their mum) Mum and a baby:

firefish
Thanks When I notice the fry there always seems to be more detritus in the tank than normal. I think they feed off the little things they find there - makes them easy to feed when they're little
