members here are majority of african listers on TM at the moment it seems.

I looked at a few sellers just now & there was Johannes, Mystic, Phill Collis & Ryan that i could identify. Anyone know any others on there to be members here?

Also it makes me wonder how many african tanks there are out there & what % of the owners are mebers here. anyone like to guess?

if that means wayneh, lmsmith, lynnie & A town are also selling then that must take it near 100% of the sellers :D

I am interested in getting a bit of market research, is TM better selling than our own forum? It obviously has a wider market but is that better in this instance?

how many fish are being sold to people who aren't members here? Are the fish moving quickly or is it slow going?

I by fish & related stuff on Trade Me all the time, as it seems more organised, easier contact, prices are clear and has a great search bar for finding exactly what you want.

The main downside is that there are a lot of people who don’t know what there talking about.

hope this helps :D

I sell fish through here and trademe, most people on here just pm me and ask for stuff.. Trademe sales are random most don't use this forums nor seem to join after I recommend it which is interesting maybe they do join and just lurk or something guess you would still find alot of info that way..

I bought some e. yellows on TM and collected them last night from a really nice guy called Ken who has never been on the forum but knows several of the people on there, mentioned Ryan, Alex, Johannes. He has some beautiful tanks set up. I have encouraged him to join up on here and sent him the link. It makes me wonder how many other cichlid keepers there are out there who aren't on the forum.

I know quite a few Cichlid people, but after reading certain stuff here, they wont join up and share their knowledge. :'(

Same reason some of the older users wont come back. :'(

aw. That's tragic. there is a wealth of information here, and more info should always be welcome.

The advantage of this site IMO: People getting to know people and helping each other, whereas TM is all about making a $. Nothing wrong with making a $ as it helps to offset costs but it is impersonal, I have met and made friends with quite a few individuals through this site and grateful for it.

Met another african cichlid person today with some fantastic tanks. He isn't on the forum either. I asked him whether he had ever used it and he said that he had used it once to ask a question and got a couple of very condescending replies and hasn't bothered to use it again. This is quite a common experience I think.

I bought some of my fish through forum, and sold recently through this web , people here freely communicate and if they wish to view before they want to by then they have freedom through forum , when trademe is blind bidding and i am conscious some time.

So I prefer forum

That is a shame tinytawny has this person tried posting again?

I think the major problem with condescending replies is some people can't seem to take advice especially if it is bad news to them.

I agree to a certain extent but there is definitely a good way and a bad way to talk to deliver 'bad news'. I have seen posts on here from newbies along these lines:

Hi I have just bought a ....(some brand of tank which is small) and am wondering whether I can keep a pair of .... in it.

And replies coming back like:

They'll be fine if you don't want them to live for longer than a week.

OR

How about you buy a real tank?

These kinds of replies don't happen often but do happen. Not good enough.
