Caryl
There's a bed for you here in Blenheim Wilson, just 20 minutes from Picton. Picton has the seahorse aquarium (haven't seen it for a few years so can't say what it's like with different owners). Omaka Air Museum (all the displays done by Weta Workshops - brilliant! Might cost moer than you're willing to pay though) Pollard Park - dangle your feet in the water while feeding ducks I would suggest a wine tour but you'er underage
Gannet
tauranga has the best stop point of ya hole trip. ME lol na joking im no fun. but ya could go to living art and have a good day out around the place
Adrienne
Can most probably offer you a bed here if you don't know someone more your own age up this way. (My kids are around your age, so we're ancient in their eyes).

firefish
There are YHA hostels in someplaces which have very cheap accommodation, when i stayed in auckland it was $25 per night. Wellington doesn't have that much to offer, but at the zoo you can feed a giraffe by going to the talk about them (so no extra charge to do it) In auckland theres auckland zoo & kelly tarltons. I went there at the end of nov. The penguins were sitting on eggs (one had a baby that i got to see!) and they had carpet shark capsules, they stay in the capsule for 9 months, so they could possible be there when you go there. I did a zoom tour at auckland zoo (the cheetah one) and i'd fully recommend doing one of those. New Plymouth doesn't have much there. But one thing thats near new plymouth is Stoney Oaks, i stayed the night there and i got to feed all the animals, & i could go in lots of the enclosures. its in Inglewood. Hamilton zoo is definitly worth a visit

Barrie
Hey.. we're not that scary up here... honest! Not quite correct Zev To those from the village of the Dambed , with us only having only one head and 10 fingers, we could be thought of as quite scary
Zev
Look, Wok, he's not even tripping up my side of the island, so he will be fine, ok?
HaNs
Taupo- Base is cheap to stay at, its sort of a backpackers, its on pub steet and above a bar. At least you can find your way to your room @ 4am without paying for a taxi. If you lucky you should be able to get lake views
lmsmith
Are you going to be going with friends? It'll kinda be a boring road trip alone. If you are, check out http://www.bookabatch.co.nz Some of them are good prices and you can get various sizes to suit. There are some awesome clubs in wellington if you're into that scene. Hope Bros on Courtney place is awesome. Picton is really boring, everything there shuts at like 3pm on weekends. You'd be better off staying in Blenheim. If you give me some ideas of what you like doing, I can give you some better places to go. Top 10 holiday parks are pretty cheap, but again, it depends on how many people you're going to be with and whether or not you mind sharing rooms/beds. They have an xbase in Welly and Rotorua too
Caryl
"Everything shuts at 3pm" So the only things worth doing anywhere are retail type outfits? There are a lot of great walks with spectacular views from Picton, the foreshore to lounge on and the beach to play on - all free and open 24/

There are a lot of great walks with spectacular views from Picton, the foreshore to lounge on and the beach to play on - all free and open 24/7 That's true, but too bad if you're hungry or need to buy something. I just think there's way more to do in blenheim, you can walk down along the river or just out from town, but still go to the supermarket. There are the same sorts of touristy 'knicknack' shops and arty type shops too. I did ask what he likes doing, because advising him on all the walks could be pretty silly if he hates walking or is allergic to the sun or something

tracytrout
TAUPO...Lived in Taupo many years, Local Pet Shop (The Taupo Pet Shop in Oruanui Rd) has awesome owners who're very helpful. Horse Hire heading north out of town between Taupo and Wairakei. Also out that way take first right past Horse Hire on main highway and follow road out to Prawn Farm, Bee & Honey Shop, Huka Jet (super fast ride and 360's up Waikato River) and there's a great woodturning shop on our way back to the main highway. I used to work down at the boat harbour so know that over summer they have day and night cruises and fishing trips of varying prices, some take you round to the the maori rock carvings whichcan only been seen from the water. Along the lake front there's the Hole In One Floating Golf and next to that is a Jet Ski Hire. There are hot pools, AC Pools and DeBretts Thermal Pools up Napier Taupo Highway. If you're an adrenilin junky there's the Bungy Jump up Spa Road and at Taupo Airport there are 2 Skydiving Operators (have done a skydive at highest altitude and can totally recommend it) and Parasailin on Lake Taupo. Back out on SH1 heading north there's Helistar Helicopters (awesome owners Bruce & Nicole Lilburn) and can tell you firsthand that the trip round the lake and across Mts Ruapehu, Ngauruahoe and Tongariro is well worth the price. Heaps of great restaurants, takeway bars and pubs. And if none of the above suits maybe just relax and have a dip in Lake Taupo, really refreshing on a hot day.....ENJOY YOUR TRIP
HaNs
Along the lake front there's the Hole In One Floating Golf and next to that is a Jet Ski Hire. Thats where i work.
