IOU1
For those of you who thought NCEA is easy, apparently the cambridge system is way easier. They are meant to give you the answers before the exams and you get heaps of 'study leave'
firefish
Slighlty off topic but have you guys organised a prank yet for your last day of school?? We are doing all sorts of things I didn't do anything, but my sister and her friends did some funny pranks My school had one building with 5 floors, my sister got some caution tape and taped off the 5th floor, so ppl who had walked the whole way up had to go and find a new way to get to their class  Then She went down to a class on the first floor and wrote on the white board " The class is on the 5th floor today" So they all walked up to the 5th floor   Then, in a class on the 5th floor she wrote for them to go to the 1st floor for class    I bet the ppl were annoyed... lmsmith
Wow you guys all did really well in your exams, what was your secret?? Did you do any of the practice papers at all?? :-? The thing you need to remember is that to get an E, you need to meet the requirements for A + M. Lots of people could answer the E questions, but didn't answer the A's correctly. Learn how NCEA works, and make it work for you, then you'll be sweet.
Olly
 we mixed egg with flour and put it all over the teachers cars
phoenix44
for those of you doing physics or any maths related paper.... remember practice is the key. keep doing questions, change the numbers, work out the questions from the answers (work backwards).... keep doing them until you feel like gouging your eyes out, lol... uni will be a massive change for you, but in a good way. and lm is right... NCEA has a weird way of doing things... figure it out, and make the system work for you. I did that all the way through 6th and 7th form and never looked back. the key is to work smart. if you know the principle behind how some thing works (eg. like in physics, if you understand how kinematic equations WORK) then you don't need to spend hours doing problems, you can apply what you know to the question asked. That's how stuff is done in uni and those skills will help you a lot more.
Stella
and at uni popularity doesn't exist and it is ok, nay it is normal, to be intelligent! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I can't wait to go back next year! Studying Ecology.
Dave+Amy
NCEA was easy peasy..guttered that they took away School Cert though - missed out by two years. it's not hard to get into uni these days  even if you fail NCEA L3 you just do the C.U.P course and that's basically no-fail..heaps of international students here in Unis because they would've had no chance getting in overseas where entrance is tougher. Adrienne
Slighlty off topic but have you guys organised a prank yet for your last day of school?? We are doing all sorts of things  I was woken up at 4.50am this morning by the Diocesan school for girls 7th form having their final fling over the fence from us. They have a sleepover and champagne breakfast. Given that we live in a boys boarding school and our house is right on the boundary fence between the two the last day of the year is a total mess!!! The flashing of bodies, Eggs, flour, raids through the boarding houses, dining rooms etc used to make the day a total disaster. The last couple of years though its been slightly more restricted to things coming over fences, yahooing, the school bell ringing, to name a few due mostly in part to the presence since midnight of a line up of security guards along our fence and also all the school entrances.
Dave+Amy
hahaha adodge - that sounds awesome for our prank we just shaving foam'd the whole school and and toilet papered it then stacked all the picnic tables together forming a giant tower..needless to say this private school was not impressed

What are all you guys doing next yr when you finish school? I think this thread would do much better as course advice for 2009 and NCEA last minute exam help

Rozski
I wanna be at high school again  Though I was lucky enough to go through the old system - School C and Bursary for me! Was the last to go through I think. Final year exams on Monday *expires* I HATE study, procrastinate far too much, freak out... all going well these are my last ones forever *freaks out some more* Good luck everyone
IOU1
Well the pranks were awesome, and ranged from egging the place to gladwrapping classrooms and students and putting the school up for sale  Oh and some kids (not including me) streaked through the school  We got kiced out after first period 8) Anyway back on topic, I am planning on doing a BSc majoring in Biology and specialising in Environmental Science (and making up the rest of my papers to complete the ecology specilisation) conjoint with a BComm majoring in Management and international business at Auckland Uni. I don't really know the reason behind my choice but it does allow me to cover a huge range of subject areas I am considering medicine but think that the above course is the way to go ATM
lmsmith
IOU, keep in mind that you're doing really different subjects, so clashes could be an issue. It's likely to take you a whole extra year to do you degrees because the classes aren't streamlined to fit together.

Rozski
I am a major procrastination-crammer Leave it too late, go OMG theres too much to learn in too short a time! Panic somewhat, freak out, cram as much as possible, and somehow make it through the exam... I tend to try to write out my own notes, so I have a big sheaf of "this is everything I need to know, in here" Been getting bigger over the years tho, its kinds depressing to have 100+ pages of "need to knows" for one exam lol
lmsmith
I used to do that, and I'd end up with everything I needed to know. I found colourcoding and sticking things up everywhere worked well for me. I'd stick in on the back of the toilet door and outside the shower. Seeing them all the time helped normalise the material. Keyworks in colour were good because I could take the felt pens into the exam which helped jog my memory.
phoenix44
i just use a LOT of colours for my notes. never highlight stuff. then i remember the colour i write stuff in and its position on the page, and presto i remember exactly what was written. when i study just before the exam, i highlight the other important stuff and then i can learn that too. its weird how the human brain works, in the exams i just close my eyes and start writing on a rough piece of paper, and everysingle important point gets noted down. i can visualise the entire piece of paper and all my notes, and lecture slides etc because of the colours that they are written in. lmsmith
I do the same thing; semi photographic memory. I can remember where something was written, the shape and colour, but not what it says. Using colour to jog my memory works great.
Rozski
Yeah I am a visual learner as well, like I remember where it was on the page and how many points there were Though like I said before, when you are getting into more than 100 pages, they start to get muddled up  Good luck everyone for exams!
