  1. No mouth, no eyes, nor yet a nose, two arms, two feet, and as it goes, the feet don't touch the ground, but all the way the head runs round. What is it?

    updates :)

Could I put one in a 5' x 2' x 2' long term? If not how long for?
  3. I can be quick and then I'm deadly, I am a rock, shell and bone medley. If I was made into a man, I'd make people dream, I gather in my millions by ocean, sea and stream.
  4. Is there direct sunlight on the tank? I have found that can cause them to spaz for no good reason, and making sure the sun couldn't get them fixed it
  5. it is illegal in NZ to sell fertilized eggs for human consumption. Any eggs from the supermarket will be infertile. If you want to hatch some chicks, buy fertile eggs from trademe. On another note, a fertilized egg will survive a couple of weeks in the fridge before beginning incubation. This is because when a hen builds a nest, she will lay one egg per day, and only start to sit on the eggs once she has a full nest of eggs. this means that even though the eggs are laid over a couple of weeks, they all start developing at the same time, and as a result they hatch at the same time.

    Fungus in gravel?

I vacuumed most of it out last night, but there is still some in there and the fish aren't too happy even after a 50% water change. I feed them a fair bit but no more than they can eat immediately, and only good quality food too (Hikari)

    Fungus in gravel?

A week ago I added two airstones and a fluval 404 to the tank. I will try to get some photos
  8. I've noticed a white fungus type growth in the gravel in my tank. it is a whole lot of white dots connected by transparent membranes. I've never seen anything like it before. I'm thinking it may be caused by the antlers I put in the tank recently, or the gravel which was sourced from the beach at Wairoa. The fish are breathing heavily at the surface and don't look happy. I've done a big water change and will remove the antlers tomorrow. How do I get rid of the fungus? (if that's what it is)
  9. Thats better, now you have one focal point, but it is still too central
  10. I would be inclined to rotate both rocks 180 degrees, this would result in a narrow cleft between the two rocks. Especially if you are going to grow a carpet in there, the eye will instantly be drawn to the darker pathway between the rocks. Make sure the path's position is 1/2.618 of the length of the tank (golden rule) and that the path moves away from the centre of the tank as it gets further away (this will create the illusion of greater depth). Best of luck with this tank, it looks like it has potential to become something impressive
  11. Are the cross's longfinned, short finned or in between? If they are in between, I would be inclined to breed the offspring back to each other, in the hope of getting some that are gold with the full length fins. Choose the longest finned individuals each time. If they have full length fins, then the next step is cross with a gold. If they are all short, then cross them with each other, and a few will come out gold and longfin.

I had a 25cm albino oscar that would let me pick him up out of the water. He didn't mind at all, to be honest I think he liked it as when I put my hands in the tank he would swim in between them and sit there. He would start wriggling after nearly a minute out of the water 8)
  14. Please excuse the cloudy water, I had just finished a water change
  15. I put them in a week ago and they actually look awesome The angels laid on one of the tips after about half an hour of them being in there  They only just fit, tank is 5' x 2' x 2', and they take up about half the tank lengthwise, go front to back and top to bottom I will try and get a photo after I'm finished their water change
  16. Is it worth anything? It is a 200ml Lindaur Fraise that has no wine in it
  17. I put my girlfriend in the rock wives competition (if you don't listen to the rock radio station, this is a competition looking for the hottest wife or long term girlfriend that listens to the rock. The winner gets $5000) This is the link: http://www.therock.net.nz/Chicks/RockWives2010 She is "Olly's girl Anna" (Red hair, yellow bikini, currently on page 1) Give her a 10/10
  18. I have a set of antlers from a 12pt red stag I shot about a month ago. I've cleaned them up and have cut the top of the skull off so there is a pair of antlers connected by a piece of bone. I am considering putting them in my tank and growing java moss or fern on them (or anything else people suggest). I see no reason why it would be bad for the tank, but thought I would ask first. Questions: 1. Are they going to affect the water? 2. Is the water going to harm the antlers? 3. Will the plants attach themselves properly? 4. Has anyone tried this before? Cheers

    Pictus Catfish

I have two, want more. They are just awesome. If your tank is big enough for them to zoom around in then definitely get some, as many as you can afford. Mine are always on the go, and go mental for food, I feed them sinking cichlid gold pellets and they seem to be doing great. When annoyed they make a sound like a teensie little sewing machine and if you're holding them at the time you can feel the vibration. ( and sometimes they do it in the middle of the night just to make you wake up and think what on earth was that?! ) Be careful when netting them, their spines get caught, also their pectoral and dorsal fins are pretty sharp, be careful if holding them
  20. Wow well done there's hundreds of them
