melrick1
I have three breeding groups of bristlenose cats: pair of common pair of golden (GBA) and a pair of albino (red eyes) seem to be more successful with the albinos which is strange as they are the rarest type. If anyone out there is a bristlenos e fanatic leave some tips and comments and hopefuly try and get some more people interested in these amayzing guys! thanks mark
firenzenz
I like trios of gba's and commons. competition between the girls Bamboo caves or plastic castle cave have worked for me, Feed up and fatten at 27.5. no water change for as long as you dare. Then- 10% daily water changes with cold water and drop heater by one degree each day for 4 days, then return heater to 27.5. hopefully boy is sitting on eggs
Afrikan
We breed GBA's well actually it seems our GBA's breed for us.. they are constant..  Recently we had a male fanning eggs in a tube cave... a heap... next thing here he and the female are, shes laying a batch under the big bog wood curve and he fertilized them... moved back to the original lot.... to keep fanning and these ones are left under the log, we took the ones that weren't being looked after and put them in a tumbler, and they are all fine and dandy. We have our GBA's in a nice size tank, not overly deep but long and wide, a nice flow of water with power head in water, good current. A few tubes for caves, nice piece of bog wood.... and have found that leaving the parents without a water change and then suddenly giving them a good water change has set them off into breeding again. MarkLB
Hi all. I love these fish too. I have a large BN male who has a harem of 2 breeding size females and several more coming to age soon. I have them in a comm tank and he always chooses the same place to breed, inside half a flower pot. I'm lucky and don't have to do anything special to make them spawn, they just get on with it themselves My only tip is to have heaps of wood and caves around so the male has plenty of choices for the nuptial site. I also have around 50 BN fry in a growout tank and I've recently got some young GBAs and I hope to get a colony of them going too.
BK
Both my GBA's and BN breed so much I've had to take the females away from the males. Found that cold water changes get them going
HummingBird
Two weeks ago I got a male BN with huge bristles, brought him home and put him in a 3ft tank with a big female and a few small ceramic caves, just yesterday I noticed a large clump of eggs in one of them. Here's a pic of the caves (they're buried in the gravel so they're longer than they look): Hopefully the young turn out like their dad! HummingBird
MY goodness hummingbird, those are some impressive bristles!!! Is that the one I saw in another thread when you first got him? Noodles? Yeap that's him. I was hoping he'd eventually breed with my female, but didn't think it would happen this fast! Neat caves where did you get them from. Nice bush!!! I got them from from Ebay. They're great because they're fairly small but still big enough for my BN's to get into, which is good because they love jamming themselves into small spaces.
