  1. If you try Hollywoods they have regulators with needle valve attached.

    Majestic Angel?

copper band is hard to keep, unless you have only a few fish as they are to slow/shy. Majestic couls be ok if you have mainly acropora, however will eat mushrooms and sometimes leathers, also they grow big so they need to be in a five foot tank min. I decide to remove my majestic as he was growing too big and started to eat my mushroom.
  4. Might get another two discus when i find some wild brown type. I believe they are hard to get.

    new discus

Just got my first new discus. wild discus imported from germany. Will get better pics when they settle in as the pics are taken 5min after added to quarantine tank. Nice fish just arrived at Hollywoods. They look like quality fish. not that i know much about Discus yet.
  8. hard to say with that photo, but a good guess is that it is dead as looking at the background the tank has very high nutrients which is likely that no acropora is going to survive as they need good quality water conditions.

  11. If you want to remove nitrates then you use a denitrator, if you want to reduce bacteria/parasites you use UV Anecdotal evidence says there is no way the UV will reduce your nitrates. I can’t find one article that supports that theory. My multitude of fish only tanks confirms it. They run one big UV and the nitrates go sky high if water changes are not made. On the other hand my reef tank rans a sulphur denitrator and it has .0000ppm nitrates on a triple diluted salifert test kit.
  12. A UV will not reduce nitrate, pretty much impossable, it will help the build up of nitrate by breaking down things so that the skimmer can take it out thus reducing nitrates indirectly. Pond Uv do have a big gap to allow more water thru them , Feelers has it pretty much spot on.
  13. NSW can contain lots of bacteria and parasites. Get a microscope and check. Most beaches in Auckland get tested so you would think they test for a reason not for the fun of it. Logic would tell you it is not safe especially in Auckland, look at all the crap that goes in the water from waste pipes. The other reason I believe NSW has a downside is that the water is not clean as it contains many traces of dissolved organics. So many people on this forum that have use NSW also have had problems with their tanks and they still discount the NSW for some reason. Nsw might be ok most of the time however your luck does run out some times. Test the ammonia/po4 as some test have shown high levels, If you do it to save money then the hobby is not for you as it does not get cheaper. It cost only about $130 for a 25kg bucket which does 800l. NSW does contain some benefits however around Auckland it has to many downsides for me to risk all my stock just to save a few cents. Never had this happen as you should mix the water overnight. by mixing it overnight you remove all the chemicals in the salt water. i would use a big airstone.

    HELP!

Does not have to be that long. 15min is ok. Can’t see why you did a 99% water change. Good way to kill off your tank bacteria. It sounds like nothing is wrong with your tank water otherwise the star polyps would not open. You got diseased fish,

    HELP!

The fish could have amyloodinium ocellatum. You will have to treat you whole tank as it is easily transmitted. Infested fish are restless, suffer from difficult respiration,

  20. What agenda? I was looking at the bigger picture not tunnel vision like some. It is hardly profitable to sell fish on TM as a business as it is not profitable in nz with a minuscule market. Anyone who suggests that it is profitable doesn’t really have much concept of what profitable is. Maybe making a few dollars is profitable for some when they don’t pay GST and tax on items sold
  21. todays Herald . will be old news tomorrow.
  22. Show us the costing as would be interested in how you work out that it is profitable.
