  1. its a Orange-dorsal Unicornfish ,Naso elegans from the indian ocean, hollywood in albany has some.
  2. I doubt your tap water is clean enough for a reef tank.
  3. algae is generally a sign of too many nutrients. Do you use ro/di filter? as tap water contains many nutrients and if you dont filter it the algae will utilise it. is you skimmer big enough. Cant say i have with reef booster. with the biodigest you do as it contains live bacteria which cleans your tank.
  4. Remember a skimmer kills plenty of beneficial organisms as well
  5. some uv info http://www.wetwebmedia.com/AqBizSubWebIndex/bizuvs.htm
  6. i quess in low levels but when you get a readings of over 80 it is pretty huge. Send some water to TM, i am sure he has a TDS meter
  7. I tested TMs water with a tds meter, you will be surprised. the tds was over 80ppm. that is more than our tank water. since he got a DI he noticed a big drop in algae etc.
  8. should be the first piece of equipment you get for a tank. Tap/rain water is full of nutrients even at zero po4 and nitrate
  9. IF someone ask you to put a sps coral in your tank which has rtn. you run for cover. It can start to effect other sps coral. White band disease is a pain.
  10. It’s due out shortly. Base on my tank I really can’t the benefit of having higher levels of kh/cal as it will drop within a matter of days. So what is the point of paying extra for a days worth of high levels. But on low stocking tanks maybe it would be better as they don’t consume so much kh/alk.
  11. Would be interesting to do a comparison with other systems like prodibio, ultralith, polylabs, etc. All work on the same principal being bacteria and food source The zeovit cost can be reduced as you don’t even need some of the stuff to get results. there are a few guys not using the zeolite and start2.
  12. yes but it helps that you start off with the smallest bubble size. having the taps fully open does not give you the smallest bubble size. yes the skimmer will skim but not to its peak performance. The smaller the bubble size means that you get better skimming. regardless if there is lots of garbage in the water column This is suggested by Deltec so i assume they are the experts on their own skimmers and have done tests. I have found the same thing on my skimmer. close the taps to 2oclock and the skimmer has more bubbles in it.
  13. That is incorrect. you have to reduce the air so you get the correct balance. there is nothing to adjust too. This is suggested by Deltec germany. too much air and the bubbles get bigger.
  14. A deltec ap850 does not have fittings so you can add extra pumps. only the ap1003 can add another pump.
  15. You could add another pump , however it would cost to much as a perspex fabricator would have to add the pipes to the skimmer and then you have to buy the pump. Maybe add another skimmer and have two going. I would have thought the ap850 would have been enough for your tank. You could cause problems for your leathers if you take to much out. also skimmers dont take out everything so you still have to do water chnages and find other means to remove po4 and nitrate. here is a pic of a needle wheel from bubble king
  16. do you have leather corals or zoos? The reason i ask is that they can release lots of toxins. try smelling you finger after picking up a leather coral? you get a headace from some of them.
  17. Is this on your Deltec?.why would you put more air into a deltec skimmer. the skimmer tap is suppose to be set at say 2oclock, if you want more air then you open taps more. however by adding more air you will loss bubble size thus not getting better skimming, no need to mod a deltec as they are build correctly in the first place. so they should for the price you pay for them. Also adding more air into a skimmer can be a problem as the bubble size gets bigger.
  18. would be ideal to have no fish as you wont have to feed them which adds waste to the water. Much easier to look after the tank with no fish.
  19. Could be a build up of something. Weekly water changes are good for the tank as you dont tend to stress stock with dramtic changes. I found that you start to get hair algae if you dont do weekly water changes and have also read this happening to a few guys on the zeovit forum.
  20. Is this the before or after pics. Because you can spot problems before they happen. i test weekly and it is surprising how things change. nitrate of 50ppm might be ok on a short term basis however can effect sps corals . even some tanks with high po4 are ok for a short term basis before you loose colour. generally i have found it takes two weeks before they show dramatic loss of colour.
  21. test kits need to be in a cool place, if they get hot they go off. did you test the clean water to see what it reads? that should confirm if the kit is ok,
  22. have you tried another test kit in case the one you have has gone off. anything under 20 is ok ,but 50 seems high.
