  1. one or two bubbles is not a problem. no point putting in to much until you have many plants otherwise the algae will love it.
  2. 24w from hollywood fish farm. Tubes are 6500k and 2 x blue tubes. all bulbs i had as Tank will have a metal halide over it. going to try 12000K reeflux bulb. the corys are Adolfie
  3. These products are ones I know are good; Tmc sell a good uv. Should be available at most stores. quality units available are deltec 54w tropic 85w tropic 55w Tmc
  4. co2 goes thru a tunze co2 diffuser, 1 bubble a second at this stage.

    dkH and Ca

try new test kits or get somesome to test with their kits. your kh has stayed the same, i would have thought that would have dropped after a few days.
  6. i prefer the 85w and 160w myself .
  7. Some updated pics. tank going cloudy for a few day. algae bloom. added a 24w uv and cleared are two day. I think having a UV is a must if you have bright lights as it will kill the algae spores. Added co2 unit after 1 month Temp controller and bioclean additive which you add evry two weeks, basically cleans tank. also under cable heater controller some cories feeding After 5 weeks pic, cant believe how hard it is to get any decent plants in this country, i thought marines where hard enough. Running 4 t5s at the momment, will be ading 150w meatl halide and 2 x39w t5s next week, this should increase light and plant growth. discus still to be added in 1 month
  8. yep. 9w is cheap and nasty for saltwater. wont really do much except kill some algae.
  9. Placebo effect maybe. The cheaper units wont kill parsites unless you slow the water flow to about 1000 L/h The cheap UVs are good for freshwater or ponds to kill algae, they are no good for saltwater Here is some info what output is required to kill protozoa. i doubt any cheap Uv will do it. on the "kill power" needed for the corresponding Micro-Organisms. Waterborne Algae 15,000 to 30,000 æW sec/cm2 Common Bacteria 15,000 to 30,000 æW sec/cm2 Protozoa (Ich) 45,000 æW sec/cm2 Fungi 45,000 æW sec/cm2

    Ammonium

You are always going to get ammonium spike with live rock as things will die when you move them. It is could still 4-6 weeks to stabilise.

    RARE fish

if you put the black tang in last they might fight for a week. pretty much the same as adding another yellow tang. these will be very special order as they demand big price tang. sell for about $400 US in the states.

    RARE fish

They grow slow, bit like a yellow tang
  14. yea , i think i will need them as i will be running metal halides and just added the co2 unit. all good for plants but also algae if tank gets out of balance.
  15. What are you phostphate levels ? as this can be the course the algae. Looks like you dont have enough light so the plants will not have enough energy to grow and use the po4. As mentioned it is the imbalance of nutrients in your tank. I would change 50% of the water weekly and only use ro or di water as tap water contains too many nutrients. best to use 80% ro/di and the rest can be topped up with tap water as ro/di take too much out and is sterile.

    dkH and Ca

redo the test as test kit could be stuffed. at 700ppm calcium you would expect a far lower kh.

    Wow

Great photos, I can relate to the 5000 photos it takes to get only a few good ones.
  20. who has some Micranthemum Micranthemoides . will go well with my amazon tank
  21. Tank is progressing well, Added plants two weeks ago. added 6 rummy noises, 10 ottos, 8 dwarf cories, 8 aldolfie cories, Today added co2, with Tunze controller, connect up the under cable heating. Added a 24w uv steriliser. Hopefully in a few weeks will add a 150w metal halide and remove the 4 t5s. will get some photos up soon.
  22. have 10 ottos, great fish. very easy to keep if you have good water quality. going to add another 10 after a few months.
  23. I would add even if you can’t spend $3-$4k than marines should not be attempted as at the end of the day the livestock suffers.
  24. the tunze co2 regulator that hollywood sells comes with needle valve attached. They also have bubble counter and the non return valve.
  25. They are nice tanks but vey hard to get a hangon skimmer on them as you have to remove the bracing which is a lot of work. I think there is also a windsor 66 which is about 200L, however you wont be able to get any skimmer on it. The mce 500 would be perfect as i had it running on a ar980, if you get a small tank a deltec mce300 is also a hangon skimmer which is good for small tanks up to 250L. If you get 4x t5s then you can keep most anemoes.
