  1. Thanks. I am not taking my reef tank down, just going to setup a new 400L corner tank. Pretty much will be a hight tec planted tank with underfloor heating , co2 gear and looks like metal halide is the way to go. fantastic web site this http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org/2006.cgi?&op=showpage&name=view-showcase How come no one from NZ is on it? We must have some tanks that would rate with these. I might do something like this, can we get all these plants in NZ. 1 Ludwigia inclinata var verticillata "cuba", 2 Rotala macaranda, 3 Heteranthera zosterifolia, 4 Hemianthus micranthemoides, 5 Ludwigia inclinata, 6 Hygrophila difformis, 7 Hygrophila corymbosa species, 8 Hygrophila polysperma, 9 Barclaya longifolia, 10 Echinodorus magdalenensis, 11 Nuphar japonica, 12 Cabomba caroliniana, 13 Hydrocotyle leucocephala, 14 Anubias barteri var. angustifolia

  4. Everyone wants better fish but they dont want to pay for them.
  5. i would just leave it as sometimes it can take longer. do you have the lights on? found that haveing lights on whislt cycling speeds up the cycling period. also add live bacteria like bio digest . hollywood used it and the tanks did cycle quicker.
  6. fantastic way to add nitrates to your tank. how you every tested the water from the brine shrimp eggs.?? i have and it is not pretty, its over 100 ppm.

  8. I am lookig at setting up a amazon tank with discus. What plants are the best to get. going to use 4x39w t5 lighting. Tunze co2 system. Looking to keep maybe 6 discus . tank will be 330L looking to get tank looking like these. http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/topten.php/s_9 Is there any NZ tanks that look as good.
  9. so true, but saying that there are so many awesome dicuss around anyway. By the looks of things there is a oversupply. more breeders than hobbyist
  10. i wonder if they use hormones to get the colours?
  11. I don’t believe that is the case, it is expensive to bring fish in as airfreight and maf costs are high. We have had a few hobbyists moan about marine fish so that started up and import fish. Reality has set in and their prices are even more than previous importers. Some very nice discus pics, i think i will set up a discus tank after seeing these discus. Does anyone use ozone and protein skimmer to get beter water quality .
  12. TM it is common problem, seen it happen so many times. When dealing with livestock there is always the unknown.
  13. It cost what it cost and it cost what someone is willing to pay. Just because it is in someone tank does not mean it is healthier than a recently imported fish as moving fish from an existing tank can cause stress which in turn can reduce the fish’s immune system.
  14. do you mean $185?. its been a long time since they have been $85. about the same time house prices where $100k
  15. no bargain on the mandarin. should advise retailers to put all the pricing up. i am sure they are about $80 at Jansens http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish/auction-77975156.htm pointless thread. Its been a long time since yellow tangs where $120. That is inflation for you
  16. Hollywoods had some some time ago, try them

  19. It’s a wood laminate.
  20. yes it can be a problem. however depends which leathers as some are very toxic.
  21. i did not get the lights and pre filter I put in 2x39w t5s and can add another bank if i have too. cool if the mce 600 can fit, do you have any pics of the top bit that shows the mce600 hanging on. I will try the mce600 or the new mce300. The tanks are very well made. 12mm bow glass. tanks is 600mm deep.
  22. Christmas has come early in a form of a new 330L Aquaone windsor 88 bow front tank. Its a very nice looking unit and the tank is well made except the bracing is a real pain. not sure how i am going to add a skimmer as i dont want a sump. Tank will be mainly soft coral and some choice angels like majestic, scribble and queen angel. Still to add skimmer, sand Some pics
  23. The lighting would have have made the fish more blue as you cant get them in a blue colour. They use lots of blue t5 lighting.
  24. you cant get a powderblue naso, as tm mentioned it could be the lighting.
