  1. The problem is getting the fish from the supplier overseas. If they dont have the fish on shipment day then you dont get it. Many fish on our list are hard to get and if they are on the overseas list Hobbyist dont want to pay the money for them anyway.
  2. reef

    New pet!

feed it fish food.most shrimps eat anything. I have 3 peppermint shrimps which are easy to breed and they eat anything.

    Lionrock

Here are a few pics of some Lionfish. They are very nice looking fish and would look great in my tank They love cleaner shrimps. very expensive meal
  4. No new regs have come in. Maf is doing a risk assessment which is not due out for another 6 months. The review was started 2 years ago.

    Cloudy ASW

Not ideal to set up a tank in a day even with live rock. But i quess you have no choice, When you move the old tank i would get as much of the old water as you can and put it in the new tank. Before you add the corals and rock, remove about 30% of the new water into buckets and fill the tank up with the old water. Get a refractometer as the swing arm things are rubbish.

    Cloudy ASW

So you have just filled your tank with saltwater and you will be adding corals tomorrow? Not sure if that is a good idea putting in corals already. it is not like a freshwater tank. Things take time. Dont add corals for another 2-3 weeks so that you can get things going correctly. Most of the bacteria will die on the live rock anyway in transport. No big deal that the water is cloudy, just leave it. Is the water cold or at 25c? Cloudiness could be because of the calcium falling out of the water due to unbalance between kh and calcium. again just leave it. Big mistake in reef keeping to rush. Great tanks dont happpen overnight.
  7. Some Discus pics, will see if i can get better pics this week as the colours did not come out that well. Penang Eruption Mosaic Leopard Intermediate Golden Pigeon Checkerboard
  8. from top maybe Lobophyllia hemprichii. brian coral hard to see photo Ophiolepis superba -brittle star Leather looks like some sort of sinularia Not sure on micro algae , pics no good.
  9. Looks ok, however firefish can fight unless paired. Put the flame angel last as they can be teriororial.
  10. Look forward to the new change.
  11. that guy is loaded. what a tank and house and car
  12. there is always something i forget. old age.
  13. It would be a massive job to split the old threads into categories. Maybe the solution would be to split a few months and put the rest under general. The past information is good as the same thing always comes around. You dont seem to get many new topics that have not been covered.
  14. I would say about $2000 would be a good start, Cheap systems just dont do justice to the livestock long term as Marine livestock is not a desposable item. I would not get a tank smaller than say 200L as a slight change in water quality could be fatal. here is a base price heater $30 protein skimmer $500 rock $100 salt $50 lights $300 test kits $120 fish food $30 timers $30 coral sand $50 powerhead for water movement $100 fish $200 corals $800 temp $15 salinity meter $100 for a good one. tank /stand ???
  15. Not to sure about this section, most advanced, most advanced hobbyist tend to use overseas web sites for this and advance sections dont really get much activity
  16. yes i knew that , no issue wasp , it toke me sometime to press the submit button so my post came in after yours.
  17. Keep on topic as just trying to put some ideas forward; don’t turn the thread into an ego trip. Already many positive comments made which are in favour of some changes as many site members prefer to post on FNZAS not other sites. FNZAS is where many started so why not improve it as it is under utilised and is a independent site run as a society to help the Hobby. I am not making the changes and I am not sure if changes will be made as I don’t own the site, just trying to get ideas, if you have no positive posts then don’t bother posting.
  18. Excellent idea puttputt. A Experts section would be a good idea as we do have the most expertise on this site which does not get utilised enough.
  19. Could the technical/equipment not be combined in reefs? could change the name of reefs to cover this. The DIY section does not get many posts to justify a section just for saltwater. My thoughts are to reduce sections and make it stream line as you will see that the other minor sites dont have much activity in these sections also. Keep the ideas coming as it will be helpful for FNZAS when updating the site. Would private trade and exchange not cover this for second hand goods. I think linking to trademe is a good idea. Could ask trade me to open a marine section so FNZAS could link to it for non commercial members.
  20. We have so many fish foods on the market that bringing in more is not worth it. Pointless bringing in stocks and having it sit in a warehouse. I had a look at Hollywoods the other day and i was surprised how many fish foods we have, Must be hard for wholesalers to bring in new products if they can’t sell it in large quantities, Most fish keepers won’t spend the money and like to go cheap. Hikari is a good product but expensive.
  21. Same for many sites. That is why i was thinking not to have too many sections. The freshwater section does not have many posts in some sections.
  22. It has over 53000 post in the saltwater section and over 2500 forum members which will want to start a marine tank some time. I am sure you can work that out.
  23. Yes you are correct, could be a good section . most forums have this section. Gives them space to talk about new products and developments.
