  1. reef

    Some pics

Might have some bacteria. eats well so might come right, Some more photos
  2. The hydros put out long tentacles at night; you need about 100mm space, Also depends on current in the tank, more current longer the tentacles.
  3. reef

    Some pics

Trying to cure it for someone., looks like hole in the head. at least he eats very well. the two tanks are chevron tang and sailfin tang, and the clowns are black oscelaris. my special babies.
  4. reef

    Some pics

    some more interesting pics
  5. Tunze used new plastic in the replacements. no big problem as they will be replaced if you got them from a store
  6. The shop that you got it from should replace it. they might have to order the part in.
  7. reef

    4 foot tank

Its a caulastrea curvata i thought you just set up the tank? looks overstocked for a new tank.. acros in a new tank??
  8. should be ok, however stop dosing as you have not need for it yet. not enough corals. you can tell by the rocks that you have to many nutrients, when rocks get that dirty brown look it means your tank is high in nutrients. 8-10 hours of lighting .
  9. you can see it under the green monti
  10. one thing what you could try is. does some vodka, 1ml per litre, or leave your tank lights off for 2 days. still after that you have to solve the underlining problem of nutrients going into your tank or you will get it back. forgot to mention, dont feed any frozen foods until your tank is mature as they contain too much waste. only feed the fish once day,
  11. so what, its part of a ecosystem. will be used by organisms,. Having a new tank will mean you will still have low amount of bacteria and organisms to use some of the decay etc, just keep the tank clean and watch what you put in it. you are what you eat
  12. no problems stirring your tank, i do it weekly. cant see how stirring sand is going to give you nitrates, do a test. test nitrates before stirring and after, would be interesting.
  13. it is not a joke. dont filtering your water will not help. No tap water is pure and has many nutrients, tds meter will tell you that.
  14. so you dont need a ro/di excellent chch water. your tank wont crash, cyno means you have nutrients in the tank. keep the tank clean and dont feed to much frozen foods, i would do weekly water changes and gravel syphon the substrate
  15. No so, i have had over 100 mandarins and most would eat frozen foods and white worms blood worm,
  16. Dont worry about it, the corals might open up soon. I doubt turning off the skimmer is going to be the problem, you fish would be dead if you had no oxygen, Only add 1/2 the reef booster as you dont want to pollute your tank, stop adding iodine as it looks like your tank has lots of nutrients by the look of the rocks, they dont look clean and healthy, You dont have many corals so take it easy on the supplements. maybe stop adding them for a month. You have some good equipment on your tank so everything should come right, i would do 20%weekly water changes, cool cardinals
  17. Mandarins dont only eat copods. In a mature tank their is other small organisms which they eat. many mandrine will take frozen brine shrimp . mysis. I dont do anything special to feed mine and he is over two years old, My tank is over 2000L which helps as nothing else eats the small organism in my tank. Mandarin will do well in a red sea max provided you dont have many fish. They should be able to fine the frozen foods as they will eat it off the substrate, I have feed mandarins also bloodworms, whiteworms. etc. Good fish to have with mandarin would be firefish. having clowns fish would be ok as they would not eat copods as they are too slow to get them in the rock. Hatching brine shrimp and feed them in a redsea max would be easy as the brine shrimp will be easy to get. I would feed brine shrimp just after the lights go out, leave on a light somewhere in the main room, the brine shrimp will be attracted to the light and hang in the corner, should be a easy job for the mandarin to get them
  18. I don’t think there is a magic number as too much flow serves no purpose either. Of all the tanks rated in Practical fish keeping over the last 5 years did suggest that mine was one of the highest, which would concur that you don’t need an overkill of flow. Many bare bottom tanks have lots of flow so that it does not leave the dirt on the bottom glass, however you have to have a filter bag in the sump to collect the dirt, With no sand you tend to get lots of the dirt sitting on the rocks which the power heads cant move. Sand seems to hold the dirt which is a plus as it can be syphoned out. 100 time’s turnover in my tank is not going to improve other than stress some of my acropora. So it’s a balance. Have to also bare in mined only few people have sps corals so high flow is not good for many corals. Plenty of tanks have less than 10-15 times flow. Many only have one power head,
  19. same in my tank spot the sand, same as coral reef. tend to keep the sand on the ground
  20. My is actually 44 times since last review. still one of the higest based on some of the privileged tanks around the world as per Practical fishkeeping review dated Nov 2007 Over kill of flow does not mean it is better as it can cause problems to corals. In the review dated 2002 my tank was only 16 times turnover. It’s easier to get higher flows in smaller tanks than large tanks but overkill is unnecessary. Good placement of powerheads can overcome adequate water flow.
