  1. Sure, If people want to go out and overdose and not take responsibility for their on actions them make them pay for the treatment etc, Why ban everything. Oh, i just accidentally cut myself with the kitchen knife, better ban knives.
  2. Should ban alcohol, smoking, cars etc. More people die from that than party pills.
  3. I am not sure, but it will overdrive the bulbs. also the starters wont match , the bulbs so they could blow up or arc, very dangerous.
  4. A bit difficult as the fittings are not the same. 150w bulbs have rx7 holders 250w have fc2 fittings, Also Never run 150w bulb with 250w bulb ballast it will change the spectrum of the bulbs by overdriving them.
  5. no. you need to change the ballast and the connections. i doubt the bracing will be a problem, especially if the halide are 22cm above the water
  6. The earth would have changed anyway but there is no doubt that Humans are speed it up with all the pollution and distruction we done to the land etc.

    skimmer sizes

Whilst the mce300 is 450mm high it will fit on a 30cm tank as it only is 280mm from where it fits on the tank to the bottom of teh skimmer.

    set up costs

If they are a good price why not. Most always recover if you have good water quality.
  9. He must be history as he should be out by know, Maybe he jumped out of the tank? what bristle star is it? do you have a pic.

    set up costs

So many views My view is that you should allow a budget of over $1K, many of the beginners posting will say that they can do it for far cheaper like $500. The more experience hobbyist would have learnt the hard way and therefore have a more realistic budget. We get so much rubbish equipment in the market that it makes it look cheap to enter the Hobby, however the reality is that the products don’t perform and is designed to give beginners the feel good factor. How many of us have spent money upgrading? How many have had to buy the same equipment over and over as the last one was crap? Best advice is to buy the best equipent and do it once. Might look expensive in the short term but you will save thousands in the long term. Marines need good water quality, so give the best you can as they are not disposable items.

    Cleaning skimmer

If i moved the skimmer to the other side of my sump and put it on the ground i could, but too much of a major mission. My inlet is at one end and my skimmer on the other.

    Cleaning skimmer

It’s a self cleaning head. Put it on a timer and the brushes rotate to clean the skimmer neck, you can attached a ro unit to it so it flushes out the cup I feed the skimmer with a 3000lph pump. Can’t gravity feed as this stage?
  14. looks like it was dead coral like the 700 kg i have from deaths over the past 5 years. the guys most likely just got it from a shop as dead coral. i doubt it was alive. Maybe the guy did not know that you needed a permit for dead coral. If it was alive and he killed it then he deserves it, but if it was dead i think it is harsh. I think Maf as normal go over board. Its ok to to flush crap in the ocean and fish out all the fish.

    Cleaning skimmer

Got the thing going again after some changes in teh set up. Had tears in my eyes seeing the beast run. The skimmer holds about 80L, That will double your tank volume
  16. Thought it was about time the skimmer had a clean as it is covered in corraline algae. Used Hydrochloric acid with freshwater, soaked for 2-3 hours
  17. Not trying to be over judgementally at all, just felt the tank was a bit overcrowded like mine . However saying that he has fantastic colour as it is very hard to get colour like that in an overcrowded tank. The colour he has is amazing for a tank that is chemical free

    Some pics

Some pics taken tonight with 100mm macro
  19. pretty nice tank. amazing colours for a tank so overcrowded with corals. You would think it would get a clean before the photos had been taken. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-12/totm/index.php

    Less is more?

Placebo effect maybe. The cheaper units wont kill parsites unless you slow the water flow to about 1000 L/h The cheap UVs are good for freshwater or ponds to kill algae, they are no good for saltwater Here is some info what output is required to kill protozoa. i doubt any cheap Uv will do it. on the "kill power" needed for the corresponding Micro-Organisms. Waterborne Algae 15,000 to 30,000 æW sec/cm2 Common Bacteria 15,000 to 30,000 æW sec/cm2 Protozoa (Ich) 45,000 æW sec/cm2 Fungi 45,000 æW sec/cm2

Do you have a before and after photo, Love the UV sterilizer, those units are not going to do much for your tank, they are little toys, they are too small too weak, will never kill whitespot. When ever you buy something that is so cheap you need to question why?
