First these fish will do better in a small colony rather than just 2/3(not trying to sell more, back ground reading will help) Second, they are best on a green diet. Third you may want to think of the cost involved. I am not discouraging or tyring to annoy anyone. Tropheous are worth abit and they have really small broods.

you may want more than that, they do better in a colony. It may take some time. You are probably looking at another 2 months atleast (if all goes to plan)

Well this has been a long time comming... As you all know i have a colony of Tropheous Ikola 18ish adults and young adults . The females have been holding (9) but never did it long enough for me to see young. At the moment i have got 4 young Ikola and 3 young yellow banded Duboisi. There is another female ikola that has been holding for some time now.. So excited and just wanted to share.. Young will be available for sale in the comming months after i keep 6-10 for myself. Anyone keen Hoping to post some pictures this weekend
  7. it happenens when there are fights between fish like that(meaning plecos).. best you can do is give them more hiding places and put some mela fix into the tank
  8. no you dont need 100 tanks that means i will have to have 100 avairies...hehe.. just 3 is plenty...after you get the 2nd generation the original females should be kept clean so take them away from females... the way you are going is good too.. just outcross heaps. Even in birds you get bad bad mutations eg: birds with big big eyes
  9. At the start... get atleast 3 albino females (you should have each pair in their own tank)lets call female 1 line one and female 2 line 2 and so on.... ===> put them to a good quality male (one for each female) but make sure they look alike and they are not closely related. (they should look alike because you want to get just about the same result from the pairings, setting aside the genetic makeup of the original male) 2nd generation you will have split offspring that can be crossed with another distant but closely identical to the original male. Now you will have 1/4 of the offspring that will carry the albino gene whicha are 75% outcrossed and only maximum 25% related to each other..even though there is only a 25% chance of them carrying albino gene they will be really healty (hopefully). Now cross the 2nd generation (25% chance of being albino) of youngsters but only with one of the other lines.. example cross only line 1 with line 2, and don't do anything to line 3...(but still kee them going) lets say for example you were lucky and put a whole lot of guppies together (2nd generation) and bingo one day you find a albino guppy. Put this guppy back to LINE 3 2nd generation offspring... you are putting together and albino (a male will be good) with another that has a 25% chance of carrying the albino gene....(if you dont get albino you know that they are carriers wich are still useful and can be put to one of the original females which is not part of the same line) from there you should be getting quality outcrossed albino that is maximum 12.5% related... which is dam good.. once you get an albino from the above stage outcross a coupl of times and you are able to make helthier lines
  10. I work with mutations in birds. Atleast maitain 3 lines and cross away from each other and once in a while come back to the main gene. Putting recessives will make the genes stroner...even though the outcome of getting albinos is small they will be strong..
  11. at the moment i am doing this to my L182 aswell. I dont have the tank space for them either. The like the TDS being lower than my hypansistrus. They will most likely be triggered by drop in temp and increase in water current, because they are black water. Also trying to maintain the TDS below 100ppm the whole time. Fingers crossed.
  12. hey jammos try this Seperate the males and femes for about a month. Give them good food, and some meaty stuff once in a while (once or twice a week), make sure the females are nice and plump, but NOT fat. introduce the females into the males tank and start the dry season slowly and increase your TDS slowly day by day and dont do waterchanges at all (can also try reducing filter power, take the powerhead out increase the temperature take out the airstone and increasing light), and dont feed them much (maybe 1/10 of original food once a week). now start the rainy season slowly for example on day 25 ( random day ) you can feed them 1/2 of original food, put the filter on 75% of speed, and decrease light (the cloud cover hah) then step everythang up a bit each day. when you start rainy season start increasing thefrequency of waterchanges like from once a week to once a day 30 - 50% (but don't do 80% like me and give your fish white spot)...... another important thang, dont change the tank around too much. i dont know if you understand what i am saying but i kept up with this for a while whith my L260 and they were responding well till i did a waterchange of 80% thangs got bad and my big female had/has white spot...i have done the treatment and the temp is at 29 c rite now..they have quietened down again. It was really cool to watch them when they were in the 'mood'. They were really active...
  13. i've got a clump of them in a container aswell..hoping for the best... 2 days old!!!
  14. nice fish 8) They are males for sure hehe... I am just pulling your leg...those are females. And nice colour too mate

    Confused

At the end of last year i got 8 L260's and then i sold off a few and got my numbers down. Decided on 4 which i thought were 2 males and 2 females. Due to the lack of odontodes on the two that i thought were females. All were were about 9-10cm long. But i seem to be observing different behaviours from the two females  The so called 'females' are also hiding in tubes that are made out of bamboo(but they do keep changing the tubes tho), the other two males which have alot of growth on them are also hiding in the same sort of tubes. Would you expect this sort of behaviour from females? (hiding in tubes) Please help meeeee

    Zebra Pleco

i have heard that people have 'taken' zebras from NZ to aussie.... i don't see why people had to sell them away ay

    Zebra Pleco

    what happened to them?
  21. fish are easily getting US$250+ and those are max 2 inches. then maybe wait for 2 years and then breed. and for 50 you are looking at UD$12,500 easy, and thats just the fish. Then freight etc etc I wana breed the easy thangs first like Ancistrus (already done) and they some 'cheaper' hypansistrus like L270 (will try soon) or L260(trying without success). I think go for the experiance and then go for gold.

    Zebra Pleco

mate everyone will be interested, including me. But the only problem is, they are really expensive they are very nice looking

    L059 PLeco

L059 is an ancistrus. I havn't got it yet, i can get them (just one). The fish that you are talking about on the list is Clown pleco. i am selling them cos i found some other plecos that i wanna try and breed.
  24. i have about 8 adult Corydoras sterbai. they breeed all the time but my plecos keep eating the eggs. I am not too worried cos i am not really gonna breed these guys till later in the future, but then again i am running out of space. I will sell them if some one gave me a good offer unilike my LFS who said that they will give me $3.5 each
