  1. thank you all for your really nice comments. They are really cool fish. Only thing is that they all go black when someone new comes into the room but after a while they get the colour back. They don't lose the colour when i am there tho. They are so brainy, thats what i think anyway
  2. its a otopharynx lithobates male in breeding colour. I have 3 females and a male of those in my t tank too.

yup they are the same fish. I have a colony of them not just a male and a female. The parents will eat the fry but i have the fry seperated from them
  5. hey matt i put the male in before she gave birth. She had a small stomach and didn't think she was pregnant, and what do ya know she was pregnant and gave birth to 7+ fry.
  6. okay i won't quote you
  7. Just wondering how long it will take a female to produce fry that have the blood line of a new male. I was thinking maybe another 2 more lots of fry and then be able to see fry that are from the new male. He has been in there with the female for just over a week. I have already had fry from the female about a week ago. Any thoughts would help.
  8. There is also another problem producing albinos by out crossing. when the half split are put back together (or even the half and a full albino) the albino that come out could possibly carry another gene, which can come out at a later stage. So test matings need to be done before it can be established that you have got a pure albino and not an albino with a maked gene :-?
  9. i have had this happen once..i thought it was because i ddnt have enough air comming into the tank. I say this because after i collected all the dead fry i saw the parents comming up for air..after that i put an air stone in.. conclusion was that the young were not able to swim upto the top to get air. Another thing is that you did a waterchange which should have given fresh oxygen to the tank plus they were in a breeding trap too
  10. i've got half albino babies now :bounce: ...the only problem is that the female was with the wrong male..black tux (till i made up my mind about what to do) so these babies are not that useful but can get albino out of them in the long run.. Just wondering how long will it take a female to produce fry that have the blood line of the 'new' male. i was thinking maybe another 2 more lots and then be able to see fry that are from the new male.. he has been in there with the female for just over a week
  11. riiiiiiiiiiite..hehe sounds funny but 8) .... Hey one of you breeders need to hook me up with some albino young. Please. My females are just lazy and dont wanna give me any babies!!!!
  12. mine isn't a saltwater tank but the tempertature is just starting to pick up now.Got the light 2 hours agp
  13. Does anyone know where i can get albino females from?
  14. should put them back to an albino which is not the mother...or if you have another line cross it over with F1 of that generation
  15. no it doesn't mean they are more albino. it just means that they are sure albino carriers if they are not albino looking (pheno and geno types)
  16. so you cannot say what 75% of the fish are, if they are albino carriers or normal in the Na x Na crossing. 25% will be albino but not sure if it will be albino 'koi' tho. You have to consider how the koi gene is carried aswell. It may not be recesive like the albino. Try to avoid crossing with dark pigmented fish as they are dominant/co-dominant over other colours (just from some reading i have done )
  17. where can i get some? I would like a couple if i can get some
  18. I just want to know one thing.. i have heard peolpe say that albino females are infertile. I havn't worked with them but is that true? (has anyone got fry from the lot that came from the recent simport?) I think they are sold out, but any that are floating around still?
  19. good stuff mate. Thumbs up :bounce:
  20. I am sorry guys but i like them. Albinos are 8). I wouldn't mind getting some albino BNs if anyone has some. Recently there have been some long fine GBAz that have come up for sale in the US. Now those are really really cool. THe fins are not as long as the one on the picture but long and yup that is an Albino Long fin BN
  21. My best suggestion will be to put the normal to the albino and then put the offspring back to the slbino and then don't cross them back. This way you should have albinos the 2nd generation. And the ones that don't have red eyes will be carriers.
  22. sterbai are one of my favourite catfish. The albino version of them still has the orange fins. If they have been crossed with albino bronzes you may not get the orange and the pointed fin. I think that there is a thread about them on planet catfish. Can you show me some more pictures?
