  1. i have had 3 different female hold for about 4-5 days aswell. they are not Kapili, they are actually some T.pemba. I don't have many of them so i have mixed them in with the ikola. My fronts killed some of my tropheus so be careful. The tropheus sleep on the gravel (i have noticed) and the fronts shift through the gravel early in the morining..so putting 1 and 2 together...you get a dead ikola.in my case 3 in one nite.
  2. these are very young still. They have just started showing off their yellow colours. Hopefully i can put better pictures in the next month or so

  9. Hey guys I have some of these guys but i don't have a male. I am on the hunt for a male so if you know of any that are in the Auckland area please let me know. Will be keen to give these guys a go at breeding Cheers :bounce:
  10. Yes these are for my fish. I have had some grest growth with the use of wardley, tetra and nutrafin spirulina flakes..I feed them frozen foods like seriously green tucker (They don't like it) and some shrimp once in a while. I also feed tetra colour bits once a week. The colour isn't that great apart from the dominant males. I am going to change the lights aswell  Making improvements will help too i guess. Will post some pictures soon.
  11. Does anyone know if this type of fish food is available in our country. Here is a website where you can refer to more information. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/n ... ectrum.php Please let me know
  12. Does anyone have any Julidochromis that they want to get rid of or knows someone that is breeding them. I want some of these guys. Please help.
  13. I want to sell the fry but the only problem is i need to build up my numbers. So this batch i may not sell but i will sell the next when i get one. I have Tropheus Ikola that are doing the 'dance'. They are young and they are just going at it aswell. They are only about 2-3.5 inches (ONLY 3 MONTHS OLD). I was thinking that they have to be about 8+ months to breed! I am not complaining
  14. The female is finally holding. I was thinking maybe in another 3=4 months they will breed but she is holding at the moment!!! It was a good suprise to see her holding when i got back from work. All i have to do now is wait and see if she will hold for about another 2 weeks so that i can strip her because she is in with other Tropheus Moorii. I will post pictures soon
  15. They get blood worms, and other frozen foods, and they get shrimp pellets so its looking good. When i first got them, they had sunken bellies and they wouldnt eat anythang. I lost one because of this at first. Now they are doing good and my L199(!!) are really nice and full.
  16. yea the male is sitting in front of the cave doing thangs eg fanning, going in and out of the cave etc..I still dont know what to feed them to condition them ay. I made my own mix with shrimp and fish and thangs, they dont like that very much.
  17. The female is out and nothing happened Fingers crossed
  18. Mine look like L199 and not like the L270. The lines are alot wider on mine and alot straighter. But young ones can look alot different from the older ones. I will post some pictures soon aight.
  19. At 10:12 i said that i will try and breed my Queen Arabs. Well after saying that i went to have a look at them/Feed them!!! Guess what The male and female are in a cave 'together'  Hope it works.I started the procedure 3 days ago but didn't expect them to do anything for some time!!! Fingers crossed!!!
  20. good stuff Catbrat. Let us know how you go with breeding. I will try mine aswell, in another 6 months or so. THey are too small at the moment. May give the Queens a go when i am on holiday from uni. Fingers crossed
  21. I have a small colony of frotosas. i have a male and two females for sure and another 2 which i think are females aswell. I have only limited space at my house and cannot concentrate on all the fish i like, and have to make some choices. I have a few tropheous and Hypansistrus species. I want to concentrate on them and want to sell the frontosa because of tank limitations. The male is huge, about 13in atlease, the females are ranging from 4 inches to 7ish inches. Only the male and the largest female are related. I paid alot of money for them because i liked the fish and wanted them, but now i am at a cross road where i have to choose which i want to keep and which i want to sell. And i thought that this will be the best place to start before going any further. So give me your reasonable offers PM Me with the price.
  22. I don't want to sound like an expert, but one of my fish had this problem about a week ago. So on saturday i put one table spoon of salt for every 5 gallons and on sunday i started a dose of melafix for 7 days.On wednesday i repeated half the dose of salt. The fish is fine now. I think this was due to an injury to the eye. *Use the advice at your own risk, it worked for me.
  23. I've got Queen Arabs (L260, anyone got females??) & Choc Zebras (L270) Do you really think that Choc Zebras are actually L270? Don't they look more like L199? (bit lost)
