Ah, poor little guy. Keep us updated Caryl, will be intersting to see how he makes out and how long it will take to heal. Will you do extra water changes because of this?? Caper
  3. Follow the directions on whatever you buy, not to say that you wouldn't  But the meds actually kill the cycts once they have fallen off the fish, so most meds require dosing for a period of time after you no longer see the white spots. *knock on wood* haven't had to deal with ick in quite sometime so forget exactly how the meds work. A reminder to take out any carbon while you are treating the tank as well because the carbon will remove the meds. Caper
  4. Hmmm, I guess just wondering if adding an airstone will stress some fish. I mean it's obvious by the surface movement how strong it is but I was wondering if "under" the surface does it do the same? I know I'm not describing it very good :-? On the weekend I put in a bubble wall in with my goldies & ottos. Looking at the front of the tank I thought, what is all the "little" things? tank going cloudy? Duh, bubbles  So I sit on the couch and look in the tank (from the end) and it looks like, hmmm how to describe, a lot of turbulence??? Anyway, I put on a valve thingy and turned it down.    You can visit anytime...but not to kill me      AND you could bring some summer with you! Caper
  5. I don't know what the med is but check the bottle just in case it requires a water change between doses. I sure hope he makes it! alan wrote: quote]So your fish is not stoned then?

Pics are beautiful . Is it the same goldie in both pics Caryl? I LOVE the color. Are they, ah he/she...comets? Caper
  7. I don't know what the flap things would be :-? What are you giving him for meds? I hope he makes it since he's "not giving" up! Caper
  8.     I was in Wal-mart one time and the person selling the fish was telling a customer what to do with her filter. Now this was probably over a year ago, anyway I don't remember why she was telling her what to do or what, for that matter but the point I'm trying to make is that I knew enough from here that it was wrong. I stalked, err, followed the lady and explained to her what she needed to do. Recently, I was in there and a young lady was buying a tank and goldfish. I was waiting, yeah eavesdropping waiting to see if the clerk was going to tell her about the new tank/fish. I'd walk away, telling myself none of my business, go back and listen again, walk away. Finally when the clerk didn't say a word other than which goldfish. I asked the young lady if she was planning on putting the fish in this tank when she got home. She said yes because they keep dying in the other tank. I told her if she goes home and puts the fish in the new setup and could die too. That is when the clerk said, oh yah, you should put this in the other tank! Anyway, I had to go. But I did see the girl at the check out, no fish and no tank. Caper
  9. Congrats on your new home Glad to hear fishies are doing well now :bounce: :bounce: Caper

  12. I agree with ryanjury and maybe they need a bit of time to get used to one another also. Keep us updated! Caper
  13. The one on the bottom on the right side is the knife fish, right? The one where his/her eyes look so white, as well as one of the other fishies, looks really eerie OH, very nice tank by the way. Even though the tank is bare bottom, you still have to vacuum right? Are you at all nervous about putting any part of your anatomy, meaning fingers, hand, arm in with such big fishies?? Caper
  14. Oh my gosh they are beautiful, oh the blue with the red fins, the white, and the...oh my gosh they are beautiful Caper
  15. Thanks for explaining about the poo   Yes, GeeTee I did realize it was the same fish in both pics; in regard to the clamped fins I meant the second picture where you can see another fish below the one in question :-? Caper
  16. I was serious bedazzled   Thanks for explaining folks! Sweet potatoes never ate them myself. Caper
  17. snookie wrote: Funny you should say that, I was watching a video about fish (might have been on here) anyway, I saw this big school of some kind of fish and that is what I was thinking you'd probably never see "schooling" fish in the wild with only 5 fish for example. Also made me question about feeding, would they not just keep feeding in the wild??? Before I had fish, I used to think one of the biggest worries was how do you know you're feeding them enough or too much. How do they know in the wild? My 2 cents worth as well 8) Caper

Hi & Welcome! I have 2 goldfish. I've only been in the hobby...um, 3 years this month actually. I only have one of my original fish and that is Sam the goldfish. Take care & have fun, Caper
  20. What do you mean by blocked out  Obviously I am missing something here...what is treated? Could this happen with clear glass, this treatment thing you're talking about so that only a specific color will emit as you say. The actual color of the glass is dark blue without the bulb being turned on. Does that not make a difference? Robert wrote: I think you're right I need to try to get the temp because that (as you say above in quote) is not what I want, I want LESS heat. Thanks to you both for helping Caper
  21. So I take it you took the pic, you are not in the pic right? How were all the people, they said one was critical? Caper
