Welcome Harrisn! Sorry to hear about your fishies. But you have come to the best place, lots of information and kind people who are always eager to help. I'm a newbie and I'd be lost without the people here. No need to be embarassed this is a learning experience that never stops I doubt that there is any person in this hobby that hasn't lost fish. I love my aquariums and fish but also realize that they die sometimes no matter what we do. Take care!

vapo! I cannot find anything that came with the filter that tells me any of what you are asking. It is an Aqua-tech power filter model 20/40. I'm looking on the net to see if I can find out, but nothing so far. The 10 gallon is same only model 5/15. There is a customer service number but not available to me this time of night. Just found a web site called aqua tech wholesalers, sent them an e-mail.

Thanks Ira! We have that at work for the main computer but it only keeps the computer on for a short time. The way it was explained to me was it just keeps the computer going supposedly long enough to shut the computer down correctly. So are there different kinds :-?

I was browsing the net when I first was looking at getting a tank. Came across something that was run by batteries in case of power outage. I don't remember what it was called and can't find it on net. I alread asked at the dept. store where they sell the fish if they had anything like that & they didn't know what I was talking about. Luckily in the 8 years I've been living in Sydney I haven't experienced any major outages, only once after a severe snow storm. But I don't want to take any chances since I now have fish that depend on power staying on Any ideas as to what I can get?

Thanks suphew & Jo1! Oh suphew, I just reread the first reply you gave me...I read it wrong...I've added the 3 neons and platy too soon. I just can't seem to do anything right lately. I read that more than once when it was first posted yet still managed to read it wrong. I will keep testing everyday for awhile and do water changes as needed. I hope I haven't caused a disaster for my fish. Jo1, I purchased an air pump when I first got the 10 gallon. The size that was recommended for a 10 gallon tank. I will be adding another goldfish or 2 as was suggested here once I had the other fish out. I don't have an air pump in the 110L though. How do I know if the filter that came with the tank is sufficient? Where the water comes back into the tank there appears to be enough water movement, but as looking in the opposite side there isn't much, does this mean the filter is not a good size?

I now have in my 110L tank: 1 red wag platy 3 black neons 3 neons 2 guppies Tested water before putting in platy & 3 neons: pH - 7.6 ammonia - 0 nitrites - 0 10 gallon: 2 ottos 1 goldfish pH - 7.6 nitrites - 0 ammonia - 0 Checking web re: ottos. Lowest temp I've come across so far is 70. Not sure what to do about heater because of the ottos???? I was just going to take the heater out altogether (at least for the summer) but not sure what to do????????? Any help would be appreciated?

Hi all! I'm back...don't everybody run and hide New tank has been running 2 weeks now. Yesterday I added my 3 black neons...what a chore to catch the little buggers :-? Our weather has been really hot...would it be too soon for me to add the platy and the other 3 neons??? I know you usually you wait a couple of days between before adding more fish...but do you think it would be better or would I be asking for trouble if I add them now???? Really worried about goldfish, water temp was up to 78 tonight...put ice in back to float. Thanks...will be waiting to hear

Hi all! Did my water change tonight, here are the results: 29 gallon: ammonia - 0 nitrites - 0 pH - 7.6 This tank has only been running a week now and has 2 guppies in for 2 days. So this is no concern, just wanted to test since I didn't have the kits when I got my first tank. I know the ammonia & nitrites will go up. 10 gallon: ammonia - 0 nitrites - hmmm, not quite .1, just barely a hint of color. So, this is good right? Have been doing weekly changes now & so is this whats bringing the nitrites down? pH - 7.6 usually it is between 7.2-7.4 I thought maybe because last week when I tested I rinsed the tube with tap water, because I found when I did that before I was getting the 7.6. So, this time rinsed tube with bottled water and checked it again (water change about 2 hours ago now), and its still 7.6. Why would this be happening? What causes the increase in pH? Thanks!

Chakuna...read the forums here... you will learn lots! Hiding places for fish is important...do you have plants or ornaments that they can hide? Caryl...is it usual for the platies to chase other fish. I only have the one so far and he doesn't bother the others at all...but could this change when he goes to his new home where there will be guppies?
