    Lots

Good luck Chakuna! The folks here will be a great help to you. But they are right, that is a lot of fish for a new tank. You take their advice and they will help you through this. You're only 9 years old...wow! I'm a lot older than you and was really nervous about getting an aquarium. Who will be helping you?
  2. Thanks Maxy...I was up early planning to get some things done...but found I was just getting in my own way So, fed my fishies...went for a drive...and then came here...love this place. You are all so kind, don't know what I'd do without you folks I'm sorry Maxy...I didn't even ask how you are making out with your fishies?
  3. OH MY...that's a lot of babies Billaney! Congratulations...does that mean you have to send us all cigars now... :-? It's a good thing you have MTS...
  4. You are going to be busy then...hope you had a great holiday The fact that I started new tank with tap water and will now use the bottled for my water change, that should be ok, right? I'm sorry you folks must think I forget everything you've taught me so far  With new tank, 27L should be enough. I know it's 25% but that is for all sizes of tanks, right? I'm sorry you folks must think I forget everything you've taught me so far  Just feeling stressed out...I'm sorry.
  5. Thanks Caryl No, I'm still home. Saturday morning here...going Sunday. How have you been...haven't seen you here in awhile? I guess it seems crazy that I'm worrying about my fish when he's having open heart surgery. But really, this is what is helping me keep my sanity. Stops...thinks...how to get fish tanks in my car  I bought the guppies Thursday evening. I think I might wait till I get back home before adding (not all at the same time!) my fishies from the 10 gallon, was going to get my son to do this...but maybe I should wait...what do you think?
  6. Good morning all! I'm going to Halifax tomorrow....my friend is having his surgery Tuesday, maybe be there a little over a week (hopefully, as this will mean everything has gone fine). This will be the longest time away from fish. I know that feeding isn't a big issue...chances are son will not be up in morning to give them their morning feeding (always fed once in a.m. & p.m.)...can't quarantee what time he'll be feeding. I always fed the same time...if he doesn't, will this stress them??? I'm going to do my water change today in the 10 gallon. So, that should be ok till I get home. But the new tank, it's up and running for a week now. I bought 2 guppies the other day who...so far...seem to be fine. There active little buggers So, this tank is 29 gallons (110L), so will do water change today with this one as well. Being the new tank, 27L change would that be right? In, the 10 gallon, all I use is bottled water. Starting the new tank off I used tap water. Only found out yesterday that he'd be having his surgery next week. Was a little stressed out...oh heck...a lot...forgot to get tap water to sit. Shoot...need more buckets :-? Will it be okay to use the bottled water for the change? I'm soooooooo glad I have my fish tanks, the only thing that has been keeping my sanity lately...that is if I have any :-? Thanks any and all help will be greatly appreciated as usual
  7. Hi Shilo & Pegasus Thanks! Shilo I couldn't remember the 10 gallon being cloudy...but I do remember it being clear the first time :-? :-?

    Coral red platy

Hi Chakuna and welcome! Great site here...people have such vast knowledge and ALWAYS eager to help. The wise ones here...NOT ME  will correct me if I'm wrong. But having 1 female and 2 males is not a good idea. I just asked questions on male/female issue. So, if I'm understanding correctly the males will hassle the lone female, not good! OH WISE ONES...am I right
  9. Uh...shilo - Pegasus? I posted the last question on this subject. First one since March. Should I have created a new one?

    New Tank

Thanks Hummingbird So, excluding betta's... you can put males/males or females/females? You don't have to have males/female combo :-? I can have 2/3 males platties then? My neons are the smallest of my fish...trying to find out who might eat them. Is it pretty much anything that is bigger than them? I know that angel's think of them as food. I mean forgot...gee...don't want you to think I don't do that
  11. Hi herefishiefishie! I don't remember this happening in the 10 gallon :-? I'd say, almost 3-4 days my water in new tank is cloudy. I wouldn't describe it as "milky" more just cloudy. So, I'm thinking it is as you described, new tank syndrome...would you agree????
  12. But I wouldn't be able to put an electric yellow in with my fish would I? I'm going to check on the net after for dwarf cichlids. Probably not something I could get though.

    New Tank

Thanks Snowman I would not have thought of "acclimating" to the new tank...thank heavens you told me  So, what fish is recommended for the new tank in addition to more platties and neons? What about the sex issue? Oh now I don't mean the birds and bees, but I was told in pet store in Halifax that since I have 1 male platty that I would have to add at least 2 females. I know, for example, that you can't have 2 males Betta's alone. Does this idea apply to most fish? My neons, couldn't tell what they were when I got them, still not sure except the pic I posted here one day and was told female carrying eggs. Since I haven't see this in the black neons, I'm guessing their males. Are some excluded right off the bat because they may eat my neons? I've been looking on the net trying to see what I can get but I value opinions here
  14. I've been doing some reading on electric yellows. They are aggressive are they not? One site said semi aggressive, another. most docile of cichlids, one had 1 in a community tank supposedly for 3 years???? Second question, what are keyholes? Was going to google but thought I'd check here. Last questions, what are dwarf cichilds? THANKS!

    New Tank

What do you recommend? Putting in "new" fish or fish from 10 gallon. I have had the water in since Saturday & added decholinator/chloramine water conditioner, filter...heater in since yesterday (74). When I first got the 10 gallon I put fish in 3 days later (as per pet store), that was my goldfish and platy. How long before I can put fish in the 29 gallon? BlueandKim, I can't find a model number for the heater. It came with the tank, now the tank is Regent but the only thing on the box for the heater is: 100 watt aquarium heater, at the bottom of the box there's something in French and an address Aquarium Systems INc., 8141 Tyler Blvd. Mentor, OH. I think you can see the heater in one of the pics.
  16. Hi MRSkz...greetings from Cape Breton I bought my first tank in March....bought second one on Friday. It certainly is addictive Have you ever had fish before? Great place here...folks are wonderful and really eager to help with their vast knowledge. Have a good day!

    New Tank

Thanks Blue and Kim Non submersible as far as being able to put the entire heater in (including cord). She told me I had to put it exactly like the directions showed! The problem where I live is there is only one pet store and one department store that sells fish. Believe me, I have been steered in the wrong direction before  I have only had fish since March & the folks here have been GRRRRRREAT! Uh...digital the little strip ones...on the inside of the tank...I thought they went on the outside of the tank????

    Hi from Wellington

Hi Blue and Kim This site is fantastic. There is so much information here and the people are so kind, patient, and have loads of information and knowledge. I'm not even from New Zealand, Australia, or anywhere near but that does not mean a thing here. I'm a newbie and they have ALL been great, super, etc., etc. Have fun & tank...oops...I mean take care

    New Tank

The new tank came with the stick on thermometer. If I put it on, can it come off? In the other tank it's one that goes on the inside and I have it at the top on the opposite side/corner of the heater. Where should I put the digital one if I use it....PUT IT WHERE...OH NO   I put water in my tank on Saturday turned heater on tonight. When I go to put fish in...should I get new ones to put in first???? When I went to the store to return the hood, I asked about the heater. They said it is defenitely not submersible :-? She even took one from the box to check. But when I think about it, heat does rise so oh dear :-?

    New Tank

Thanks Snowman I read the box again that the heater came in and it says to attach vertically! Have to take hood back today, piece that holds the light in was broken  I'll ask them about the heater....should be interesting to hear what they say   Have a good evening...its off to work I go
  21. Caper

    New Tank

Oh...I didn't know...I thought you had to buy a special kind for it to be submersible...duh :-? I have never had anything before with an electrical cord attached that could go in water OMG...I just realized, it said on the box not to place too close to plants or "gravel"...  ...couldn't understand how it could be close to gravel and only have the water to the squiggly line   . Did I mention to tell you folks, if you haven't realized it already, I can be really dumb!
  22. Caper

    New Tank

How can I put the heater diagonal/horizontal? I don't think this heater is submersible. Near the top it has a squiggly line that says water line. I may have the water above that line but the black "thingy" at the top I do not put in the water. I will look into this though. THANK YOU SNOWMAN
  23. Pies....that is an amazing fish...what is it called? With all the living things in the tank (excluding fish), do they just keep growing or do they all have a size to attain and that's it?
  24. Caper

    New Tank

Snowman...just going throught the posts...30 outside, not in the tank  Our winters can get fairly cold, into the minuses, but not the bitter cold like up north, but still cold enough especially when there is a wind chill.

    New Tank

Okay what do you think...opinions please Haven't decided yet if will put background on new tank or not, but then I don't like being able to see the filter and wires! Too small????...just kidding new dish for pussycat's food  Sorry pics are so blurry...next time will take BEFORE I have one of those evil white things that make my hands shake.............cigarettes that is
