    Stone-in-mouth!

Great news...congrats to the surgeon :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  2. I don't know if you can see it in the pics...but the water is flowing really heavy this time down the same side as the intake tube. My water is clear this time. However, the water that is coming down is much more than the last time this happened. Usually, there is a "trickle" at most. I took the filter apart and cleaned it but no change this time. Could this indicate something going wrong with the filter? There is still water flow through the filters themselves. Although this filter is slightly larger than the one in my 10 gallon tank, it is the same kind and this doesn't happen. THANKS ALL!
  3. How many male & female platties Lyndyloo?? If she is outnumber by males, then she could be suffering from exhaustion, I would think! Have you noticed anything else with her? Unless it is like Laura said, something doing on with her swim bladder. I'm checking on the net...but so far haven't come across anything related to fish with head up and tail down, but will keep looking. Perhaps Caryl will find something in her book
  4. So, this is probably a world wide issue isn't it...hats off to Doc
  5. Plus if they are stressed, they loose their color as well, but once things settle down their color will come back. Also, neons, if they are in the dark too long, when you turn the lights on they will be really "faded" but after a bit their color comes back.
  6. Does carbon affect the pH?

    Am I learning?

Gee, you're quick Why is this not good? Does it cause stress on the fishies? Oh...and is this a good site to learn about fishies anatomy or is there a better one? http://floridafisheries.com/Fishes/anatomy.html

    Am I learning?

Thanks monaro! YES! Jude Okay...let's go further.... 1) The kind of filter you have: - the kind, is it personal preference? I'd say, yes. -size, you have to have one that will meet the needs of your tank 2) Is there such thing as too much filteration?
  11. What is the item in the right hand corner of the second pic? And is it the same thing, that you see on the left hand side of the first pic? Thanks for answering my questions I'll never have a saltwater tank...but I'm still fascinated by them :bounce:
  12. I tried "search" at the top...but so many things came up :-? :-? Just trying to see if I'm starting to understand what these things do, all corrections...further explainations, info...HELP...would be appreciated!!! Okay, here goes :-? :-? 1) filters: -internal & external -all contain some kind of filter media such as sponges, carbon, polyfibers, noodles....? -some media is used to filter out "bad"...bacteria, waste....? -some media (bio?) holds the good bacteria -all? cause water movement helps create more oxygen -are a necessity for all tanks 2) air pumps -connect to tubing -air goes through tubing to airstone, ornament, bubble wall...? - the air causes movement resulting in more oxygen -not a necessity 3) power heads (really can't get my head (lousy pun) around this one) -causes water movement?????? -not for freshwater tanks???? 4) air control valves (see these at store, when asked what they were for, they told me just to hold multiple tubes) -holds tubing from air pumps? -you can control the amount of air going through the tubing????
  13. Thanks slappers! So the tanks that don't, if they have the lights hanging like the tank above, does that stop the fishies from jumping out??

  15. Oh my...your poor Mother! Your tank looks great Do marine tanks ever have lids on them??? When looking at pics of them they don't look like they do??
  16. That's what I was wondering Suphew if leaving the water sit for a week or two could result in it being stagnent. The containers do have caps on them, if that makes a difference? I think I'll just do a refill the day before, that should be ok don't you think? I just want the water to be room temp before adding to the tanks. Thanks
  17. CONGRATULATIONS Kookie on getting MTS...oops, I mean your new tank ...it was only a matter of time :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Looking forward to pics!
