  1. the picture I am going by is at planetcatfish.com with that L number thingy. It doesn't look like yours as mine are more odd shaped spots and not squigly lines. But it has a white band at the tail and fin on top of its back. I was mainly going by the description that it had there on how to ID the fish. I paied $7 for it and its only just 2.5 cms long. Have no idea if its M or F yet. Maybe I got it wrong lol  ....... the search continues.
  2. There is some under the tank. They gave it to us when we brought the tank . I just don't show it in the pictures. Its about 1-2 inches thick.
  3. All is good Caryl. I will let you know as soon as it arrives
  4. Ancistrus claro Its the only one that discribes the markings I have and from the pictures I have seen of the younger ones they look like my one. LDA08 I think is the number thingy for it lol As soon as I manage to get a good enough pic of it I will have to put it up so you can tell me if I have it wrong lol
  5. Well for my guppies (I got 6 of them) I give them about a pinch of flakes (crushed up) morning and night and for my 1 bristlenose I give it 1/4 of a tablet because its only 2.5 cms long lol. Depends on how big your bristlenose is as to 1/4 or 1/2 or a whole tablet. With the guppies you will soon see how much they are able to eat in one sitting. Give them a very small amount and if its all gone and they are still searching the surface for more food after 1-2 mins then offer them a little more but not to much more. But I am sure that others here will be able to give you some guide lines to follow. I am just going by what the shop told me. Also your bristlenose will eat wood (bog or driftwood I think) and also veges like cucumber (seedless) and peas with the shell taken off. There are also a couple of other veges that it will eat but I don't know how to spell them hehehe. Check out the Catfish section
  6. Yeah I know that feeling!! I can take like 10-12 pictures and only 1-2 will come through ok lol but I won't be able to take any more untill I go shopping during the week and get some more batteries
  7. LOL by this time my fish were that dazed from the flashes they did nothing but stay still. Its real bright because I have currently got white paper behind the tank to bring out the fish. If I didn't have that there you would see a brown wooden wall and never see the fish. It also makes it easier for the kids to see the fish with the white backdrop Thanks for your comment about the fish and pictures
  8. Thanks the grey stuff at the back is normal gray pebble gravel sort of stuff and the white stuff is just a finer grain substrate. I wouldn't have any idea as to what sort of substrate, I just thought it would look nice and different.
  9. the batteries are now flat in my camera and I can no longer take any more untill I get some. But over the last few days with many flashes going off in the hallway I have managed to get a small number of pictures which you can identify as fish LOL. The link is as followed http://photobucket.com/albums/y116/penejane As I said nothing much but these ones are the ones that I was happy with.
  10. I know this is kinda off topic but I have seen it in many threads now. Do you guys seriously buy off each other?? Or do you sell them back to the pet store?? I don't know if my petstore will even take back any of mine if I become over populated lol So with the right fish you could breed them and make some pocket money??

    Hi yall

welcome aboard. I myself have only been in this hobby for a couple of weeks now. I got 6 Black Tux guppies and about 10-12 babies and 1 bristlenose catfish. I hope you can sort out the problem before any more fish die.
  12. ummmmm noob question I know but what does that mean?? These forums go down or something?
  13. while it was sitting on the side of the tank today I measured it and its 2.5 cms long. How old would that be roughly and does its spots/colours change slightly as it gets older? I have been looking hard out for a picture as to what species it is and I havent' found any yet. Its a real dark brown/grey colour with white spots/blotches and the two fins on its back/tail have white tips and its tail is white at the end. Any ideas as to what one it is.
  14. WOOO HOOO Congrats. Glad to hear that all turned out well
  15. OH MY GOD I can't believe how beautiful all your tanks are. Mine looks all empty and boring yet for some reason I will often be found sitting in front if it for ages just watching. Awesome work to thoes that have images of their tanks up there. I hope one day when I have more plants, rocks, wood and fish in my tank and eventually a background thingy up I will have the courage to put up my tank. Once again totaly awesome and much pleasure to view.
  16. thats a long time to wait to find out the sex of a fish lol keeps the kids attention though
  17. brought my first bristlenose today. Its about 3 cms long with whiteish spots and a white strip at the end of its fins. Have no idea yet wether its a M or F but I am sure time will tell I just hope that my guppies will be nice to it.
  18. hehehehe yah thats good to know shelly. I went down to the shop today but didn't like what they had. There were a lot of dead fish floating about in his tanks and they were all green and could bearly see the fish inside. But information wise he told me that my tank is to new (2 weeks) to worry about a algae eater yet and to first of all get more plants in my tank. So I am going to get more plants first over the next month and once I have a nicely set up tank I will then reconsider getting the algae eater
  19.   hope they will be ok. Keep us updated.
  20. I hope this works but I finaly got some pics of my guppies. Nothing flash to look at but one is of my fav male and the other is of my whole tank setup. Pictures are from a cheap digital cam that I got a couple of years ago so its not that great nowa days. ok here we go.
  21. I have two tiny snails that came with my plants. I have no idea what they are and my camera isn't good enough to take closeup clear pics like you show there so I will have to wait till they are bigger
  22. so the sucker fish will even clean the plants?? Hmmm wonder if he will clean my house for me to! hahahaha Seems as I am only looking at getting one of them for now. Would I be better off geting a female or just a male for now? I ain't interested in breeding them at all. Just wanting the one to help maintain the tank.
  23. One thing I was thinking of. If I got a bristlenose catfish, will it eat holes in the side of the net breeder that I have currently inside my tank with my guppy fry in it? There are also a small number of fry swimming about the tank that I can't catch. Will it eat these to??
  24. I was having a real good look at it last night and it looks like little trees (best way I can discribe it). It has like a little bushy top and sits just above the leaf its on and moves with the current in the water. I have noticed I have got a couple of snails but I never purchased them so they must of come on the plants but they are very very tiny and can't see how they would of laied that many eggs lol. I just had a look this morning and a bit of it seems to of been eaten last night from the guppies. When I do my water change this friday I will give the plants a bit of a wipe over with my fingers to see if I can get the stuff off and see how quickly it comes back. It is also on the inside of the glass and moves about with the current. I have a magnetic glass cleaner which takes the stuff off but it seems to appear again with in 2-4 days. Really hope this won't harm my fish or fry.
