  1. Thanks Living Art, looking forward to getting some eggs from these guys and seeing what pops out that's for sure, been a long time in the making
  2. Some incredible photos here! Not sure if these count as they're not a reptile but I've managed to breed 4 albino axolotls and get them past the 6 month mark. Taken me quite a few years but very pleased with my little group. They came from a brown/white pairing, they'd both come from white/gold parents who had also come from a white/gold pairing that produced 4 albino offspring, all of those were males but I'm hoping for a few females now and have kept their only sibling whose white. Genetics are so fascinating, and frustrating!
  3. I also leave lots of moss in my tank, it can be a bit time consuming pulling it out and checking for eggs but they do really seem to like it and it doesn't affect it having pieces being pulled off it all the time.
  4. They are doing so well, love seeing them grabbing their food and the musical background, sounds like my place! Congrats on a great job.
  5. god don't tempt me, just off to look at some corals now for the clowns tank, good thing I have no other expensive vices. I will definately be in touch once the studies out the way
  6. Awesome photos, my girls are now nagging me even more to set up another tank. I should never have shown them the photos 8)
  7. Congratulations that is awesome! :bounce: :bounce: Love the photos, these guys are No 1 on my list for when I buy my own house, just incredible. Rebecca
  8. Merry christmas everyone! Have two little girls counting down the hours, hope everyone has a stressfree, wonderful time and Santa brings you something special. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  9. Congratulations :bounce: Hope to see phots of your first Reeves baby soon
  10. If you want to pm me your address I'll pop some eggs in the post for your son It would be nice to return the favours you've done me with the guppies and plants By the way I managed to get a female angelfish to go with those boys so they will be going in a breeding tank soon, fingers crossed! Rebecca
  11. I feed my newts even once they've morphed in the water. I was told long ago that it's better to encourage them to spend more time in the water, I have no idea if it's true but it does make it very easy to ensure all the food is being eaten and those babies leap off their floating logs and paddle over to me pretty quickly when they see food  The only things I don't do it with are the wingless fruit flies and the aphids. They are great fun to raise and as long as the water quality is good and there's plenty of food they seem to thrive.
  12. Sorry, I've only just seen this as I've been busy studying for exams  If you still want someone to go and have a look I'm on the Shore and can shoot out and have a look for you? Just let me know. Rebecca

    Leopard fish

Can anyone tell me please the status of these fish? Phalloceros caudimaculatus or Leopard fish? I've been told they aren't legal but I spent hours last night trying to find any info on them and their status in NZ and couldn't find anything. I know they are sold in petshops and have seen people on here mentioning them so am a little confused. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Great pics Bedazzled. We were up there last weekend too, fantastic place! Loved all the baby Beardies and tortoises. Rebecca
  16. I think the one you're thinking of may be a Jacarini, hopefully my spelling is right. If it is the males look stunning in the sun! Rebecca
  17. Merry Christmas everyone I've spent all day today cleaning tanks (40 odd) so all the fish, newts, turtles and axys are happy and I can have a guiltfree Christmas Day with my family 8) I hope everyone has a relaxing time over the holidays and enjoys the break.
  18. You can order it via Trade Me, there's a few fetailers who will post it for you or maybe try ringing one of the Whangarei petshops to see if they can help you, as Mark says, putting it in the fridge will give you time to work something out. Rebecca
  19. You could also try some Melafix in the water, running an airstone to ensure the water is well aerated and putting frozen soft drink bottles of water into the tank if the fridge is tricky, I think the fridge would slow the fungus down but possibly not cure it? Just my opinion as I've never used the fridge method although I've heard it certainly helps. Hope it survives, good luck. Rebecca
  20. I am so sad, Bryan was a great guy who always had so much advice to give and I feel lucky to have known him. My heartfelt condolences to his family at such a devestating time.
  21. Good luck guys, will be thinking of you today and have nearly everything crossed. Tried the legs but kept falling over Here's hoping for a successful outcome. Rebecca
  22. I would have to say I'm with Stella on this one Thank heavens I only have to justify to myself what I spend on my fish. Although in saying that I do have a friend as bad as I am who I should never seek an opinion from when I'm thinking of new fish  Rebecca
  23. This site is incredible, hopefully it's ok to post info like this. My friend emailed it to me last night so have only looked briefly but I would imagine there's enough information to keep you going for a while http://www.fao.org/DOCREP/003/W3732E/W3732E00.HTM If I was you I'd take Navarre up on his kind offer so you can get good quantities of daphnia ready for your newts. Your fish will love the microwroms and daphnia also. Good luck Rebecca
  24. Good luck guys, will have my fingers and toes crossed for you
  25. You should be able to obtain acidophilus at any Health shop. There is some sold in capsules which you can break open and use the powder inside but remember those tablets are designed for human weights! Have you checked that this product is suitable for use with reptiles? If your vet is uncertain he could give one of the specialist centres a ring. Hope your dragons are ok.
