  3. Yes, those rasbora have been in NZ before, don't know if they are around now tho. Maybe those who frequent the LFS will be able to shed the availability of them at the moment. Alan 104
  4. Yep, the C. nigs are, or should I say were, in NZ. In fact they won first in the show that the NZKA had at Beachlands last April I think. She stated that she had young, but I don't know what happened to them. Christine Marshall was the last person I know with them, why don't you send an email and check with her, I'd be VERY interested in her reply if you do. Alan 104
  5. Maybe my eyes are failing, I saw 11. Alan 104
  6. Go to a plumbers shop. Alan 104
  7. You're not being nosey Luke. What I say may help others not make the same mistake. Last time, due to the fact that the air supply was blowing the wrigglers into the wide open spaces of the tank from their vase, I turned the air off. I believe then that the decaying egg membranes polluted the water and started of a fungal attack on the babies. You may be able to tell from the pic that I'm using tonic to combat this, but by having the air off, the vases water was not being changed, as it is now. Thanks for the well wishes. Alan 104
  8. Needn't have jumped that far, but in it's efforts to get back into the tank that the silly beggar decided to leave, it will have done a lot of useless jumps in it's efforts. But to no avail before the mat of carpet-hair was too much for it to continue. Remember, penguins can't fly either, but penguin fish can, so can almost any other fish given the right impetus, especially sex, as this results often in very hard chasing. Alan 104
  9. Just checked the hatching tank, see those eggs in that pic? Well they are no longer there, and in it's place is a sort of scraggly, whitish mass. (Caryl loves that type of discription) I thought "Oh bother!!."  (Yeah right) So I got onto tippytoes, twisted the vase so that I could see into the base of it. YIPEE, I have wrigglers. Now for the next step and try to alleviate what I did wrong last time. Alan 104
  10. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/p ... ?news=1167 Here is a link that I got sent to me this morning. Thought you killiephiles out there might be interested. Alan 104
  11. Checked the temp. The one above is the air, ambient temp., during the daytime when left open, and the water is 26oC. With the heating and confinement, it is working a dream, only thing is I'll have to paint out the light bulbs as when the temp. drops, the fish get a wake up call. Alan 104
  12. Yo Whiskas, so you are into killies huh?? Where'd you catch the bug, and are you a member of the NZKA?? You'll see several members on this forum, proudly sign off with their NZKA number. eg I'm Alan NZKA 104. The lower the number, the more ancient ya liable to be and the longer in the group. Yes the eggs, as long as they are viable, are clear, small, and if fresh, easy to handle. Hatching in approx. 10 to 14 days, depends on the temp of course. Just in case you haven;t been told yet or have not had the mifortune for a "LGOOHS" of your fish, you MUST keep the lid on the tanks firmly in place, even the smallest gap will be utilized to play hidee with their aquariest owner. Even when feeding, care must be taken as in their excitement they can go thru the gap presented better than an Aussie Kangaroo league player. Oh!!. Yes, they should be ok with their tank mates too. Alan 104
  13. The parents are banned to their spawning tank, 28oC, I now remove the eggs from them as soon as I see them, the last, all but one batches, were scoffed by the female. I don't give her a chance now. I think I may have been a bit out with my temp., I'll check it again, but the last lot that DID hatch to the wriggler stage did OK untill I made a clinical booboo. Alan 104
  14. Here are the fifth, or is it the sixth lot of eggs from my Apistogramma panduros. Estimate of the number of eggs is 60 plus. I get a little closer to success now with each lot of eggs presented to me by the pair. Note:- Behind the second peg is a thermostat, this is connected to the light bulb at the right hand side, another bulb also at the other end of the shelf. The front of this shelf, 1.200 x .400, is closed in the evening with 10mm polystyrene to control the heat which is set at 23oC. The pot is supported by a saddle I made to stop the eggs from blowing out as they hatch to wrigglers, and I have a small airstone to keep the water inside the pot from getting stale. To give an idea of the size, those are the common garden variety plastic clothes pegs. Alan 104

  16. Yes, it all takes time. Yeah Right. Alan 104
  17. Shane, have you got a count of the rays of the fins. Especially the jugular pelvic fins, that is the ones down by the base of the gills. Is it a triple-fin or two fins. That is the dorsal, ok. Maybe with my book I'll be able to attempt an ID of it. Alan 104
  18. Ya put a small pump into the system just to circulate the water Jude. I haven't connected it all up yet, but I'm picking that there wil be lotsa open doors when I do. Alan 104
  19. You aren't far from the beach down there. Get a bucket and fetch some and do as I said in the first post. Dip, >wash, >wait, >dip, >wash, >tank and danios. Ezzi Alan 104
  20. Yep, Mystic has it. Don't worry, they'll go away, juss make shure that u only feed enuf for them to eat in 5 mins and still be lookin for more. Alan 104
  21. Don't leave the moss brewing in the salt. That will kill it too. Depends on the strenth of the brine of course, but when you say that you have "loaded it up", leaves me a bit concerned. Alan 104
  22. Thought sag had the type of leaves you wanted, especially about 100 of them. Alan 104
  23. Dip into sea water strength salt water, rinse, then wait for a month or so and re-treat, this will kill the snails that have hatched and weren't killed with the first salt dip, but they aren't old enough to bred themselves. Hot water to kill the snails will also kill the java moss. Alan 104
  24. The last shed I built here specifically for the fishwas to convert a govt house garden shed. This has a fibro exterior over 150 x 25 backing onto 75 x 50 studs. That was what I started with. This then had 12mm poly put on to all areas exposed to the inside of the shed, except the studs. Roof and walls. It was then completely lined on the inside of the studs with 50mm poly, lined both side with thin MDF (I think) which was pre painted. Then I laid a cobweb of 30mm appx.of PVC piping onto the floor for later connecting to solar panels, and covered that with about 12mm of concrete. Double glazed the windows myself and that was it. Only heat in the room is the flouros, Maybe need specialist heating for specific tanks, but works okay for me. Insulation saves heaps down the road, wait and see if you don't. Aquanut built a an insulated shed inside his rented garage, this was done in modular sections for when he has to move to a different site, and his is heated with a thermostatically controlled fan heater. His works a treat. Alan 104
  25. Last pic didn't show. Deleted or moved, Alan. Alan 104
